Still following my penchant for technical material on the US Army in WW2, I just received two new titles.

1) "Sherman At War", by Michael Green, Zenith Press, 2007. Part of the "At War" series that has been published in the last year or two. This edition covers the famous M4-series of medium tanks, mostly is US service. As well as a technical and developmental history of the Shermans, Mr. Green covers the use of the tank in combat and many aspects of living and fighting in the tanks.. Lots of color photos, both original period color shots and photos of restored vehicles. Many interior photos and drawing help the reader see what is under the armor plate. Readily available from Amazon.com for only $13.57 this is a great deal for those who want to learn more about these famous tanks.

2) "World War II AFV Plans - American Armored Fighting Vehicles", by George Bradford, Stackpole Press, 2007. Mr. Bradford's name is familiar to older AFV researchers - for over thirty years he has run a printed newsletter, "AFV News", and sponsors an AFV News website. His latest project is a series of books containing scale drawings of famous fighting vehicles. This edition covers all kinds of US armor from before WW2 to the Super Pershing at the end of the war. Not only tanks, but armored cars, halftracks, Amtanks, etc. The drawings are clear, well rendered and in common modeling scales. One page contains enlarging/reducing ratios for changing the drawings to any other modeling scales (including 1:32 scale). The drawings have shadings to make them easier to read. This book is highly recommended for our model manufacturers, for our conversion specialists and people interested in US vehicles. Available from Amazon.com for $14.95.

Presented for your enjoyment.

Re: and another...

Package just came today with a copy of the recent Concord Publications "British Shermans". A soft cover photo essay on the many uses of the Sherman tanks by British forces from Alamein (listening johngambale?) through Italy and Europe as well as in Asia. A nice addition and a change from the usual Sherman books that focus only on US use.

Although I have yet to read any of Michael Green's books I did meet him in person before. He is a very knowledgeable dude and I actually learned a lot about tank warfare and tank design from him. Im going to have to pick up his new book and give it a read.

Take Care
