Gentlemen. As some of you may recall, I posted this ultra rare set a couple of years ago. As fortune turned out, a few days later I pulled off a nice business deal that meant I didn’t have to sell them, so I (thankfully) held onto them. Alas, as those of you who run your own businesses will understand, needs once again dictate that I must reach out to see if you can offer them a good home.
This is the pride of my collection, all the mounted figures bought from K&C way back in 1986 when Andy was still operating out of his first store in Hong Kong - the mounted band still has its original (if slightly battered) K&C Collector's Series large box. The sets are:
1. An extremely rare 12 piece mounted band of 1st Skinner’s Horse produced by Somerset c.1986. I talked to Ron Leh about it a few years ago and he told me he had only made half a dozen of these back in the early 1980's and is only aware of one other complete set possibly still in existence – with a collector in India. The mounted band consists of one each of the following musicians: flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn, tuba, trumpet, trombone, bass horn, cymbals, plus 2 kettle drummers, plus British officer in native dress. If this incredibly rare set were still being produced, each musician and the officer would cost at least $130 and the kettle drummers would each cost $175 (take a look at Somersetltd.com for a quick comparison) for a total cost of $1,650. Add on the extreme rarity value and...who knows??
2. Set of 3 mounted sowars 1st Skinner’s Horse. The lances are separate from the sowars, and don't fit exactly into their stirrup holder without a little hidden help from blue-tac - which makes me suspect that their provenance dates from the early K&C/Frontline period.
3. Set of 6 dismounted 1st Skinner’s Horse sowars, produced by Somerset c. 1988-9.
Hard decision to sell, but I will accept any fair offers for each or all 3 sets. PM me.
More photos available on request.
