I really enjoyed making this display today, even if there are a few inaccuracies, I always appreciate such quality figures and like to let them shine. It's always sad for me to think that I missed out on John making such great Marines during the US Civil War, I do hope it's something he may come back to down the line.

Very nice scene. I picked some up when they first came out.
I created this scene for an essay I wrote for John's Annual.
It is based on a real event - a raid on a Confederate Salt Works along the Florida coast by Marines aboard the USS Kingfisher. The Union was out to starve the Rebs by eliminating salt that was used to preserve food, especially meat.

Many thanks, Randy, for digging up this marvelous and fascinating nugget of history. So much is made and discussed of the "Big" events.
In contrast, the number of "vital" smaller actions often go unnoticed or forgotten.

I have wanted to jump in on these sets, but I feared that the line would wither on the vine. Let's hope John gets "re-inspired" and adds more to this series.

Thanks for sharing your article. In a war as vast as the Civil War, it is easy to forget that a plethora of smaller actions were fought besides the big battles at Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and Petersburg to name a few.

Glad you enjoyed it.

My interest in this event was driven by the fact that Arthur Homer, the brother of American artist Winslow Homer (my research interest) was one of the members of the crew of the USS Kingfisher. Later in the war he was an officer aboard the Tinclad USS Argosy as part of Porter's Mississippi River Squadron.
