What is the metal spike/pole attached to the front of the US Patrol Jeep (DD075) for? Early anti-roll bar, camo netting support, or gimmick against hidden fishing wire booby trap a la "Force 10 from Navarone"?

I believe that is to deal with cables stretched across the road to decapitate them.

Quite right, the vertical bar is a wire cutter. Rarely seen outside the ETO. There were stories of the Germans stretching wires across the road to decapitate GIs (it was common to run with the windshield down). Another very real danger was US phone lines strung across the road (remember a LOT of WW2 was controlled over landline). Anyway, there are several designs seen, but Andy was quite right to include it on a recon Jeep.
