Can anyone recommened a good book on US submarine warfare in the Pacific during World War II.

Many studies available but 2 of the best are 1-"Sink 'em All" by Charles Lockwood done by Dutton in 1951. 2- "Silent Victory" by Clay Blair Jr. done by Harper-Collins in 1975. These are both good studies, the Blair book especially so. -- lancer

I second the motion on "Silent Victory". A big, in-depth look at the men, machines and actions.

A couple of quick reads are "Escape From the Deep" about the USS Tang and "Final Patrol" which has 17 stories about US subs and one German U-boat.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations, I will look these books up.

another vote for silent victory,,the detail on early war problems,,politics and command decisions between lockwood and other commanders,,all first rate. I lost my copies in a hurricane along with hundreds of other books and bound volumes of magazines,,
