There is a new book out "Flame Dragons of the Korean War" that tells about the Flame Tank Platoon of Headquarters Company, 1st Marine Tank Battalion. Here is a chance to get veterans stories about a unique piece of combat gear - the M4A3 medium tank with POAH-5 flame thrower. These were the "two-barrel" flame tanks that you can see in Duke Wayne's "The Sands of Iwo Jima" movie.

This book is primarily veterans stories versus a military history of USMC flame operations. The stories are varied and fascinating. I have just started reading this and am amazed at the little details of life in a tank unit. There are about 175 photos, mostly unpublished veterans's stuff, showing the tanks, the men, the Koreans, and the terrain.

The book is privately published. It can be found at:

No connection with the authors, just a Sherman tank buff.

Gary: this definately looks like a book that will be sitting in my Marine library soon. Check this one out--Tarawa's Gravediggers. I don't know where to get it, but someone told me its a great book.............Stryker

A special breed to get into a zippo,,my bn was supported by a troop of the 4th armored cav,a 113 flame track stopped on the road with an inoperative ignitor,,spraying raw napalm anyway to prevent being over run,,supposed to stick and feel like acid to the receipiant.
