just saw on CNBC...

the US Postal Service...

in a cost cutting measure...

will omit 20,000 current jobs...

also First Class mail delivery will also be slowed down somewhat...

currently First Class is considered 1 day delivery...

with the upcoming slowdown on delivering First Class...

now 51% of the First Class will be 2 days or longer...

everything else will have an even longer delivery time...

this should affect all mail delivery within the US...

I didn't hear anything about rate increases...yet...

We need to drop the remaining laws that restrict the market and prevent the courier services from carrying all classes/types of mail. They're able to deliver more efficiently than the post office, without restricting their delivery days and hours.

Prost!

In 2006 Congress passed legislation that forces the USPS to pay 75 year pension liability, in 10 years.
No doubt there is some inefficient programs and policies within the USPS with both management and workers, but funding 75 years worth of pensions in 10?
No wonder they are in the red year after year.

I ship USPS Flat rate Priority mostly and have never really had any problems.
The other day I took a used priority box that had come to me for a purchase to ship a model tank.
Clerk wouldn't ship it.
Said it was a REGION A box.Sure enough on the side in small letters it said Region A
Whats that?
I dunno, but you cant use it.
Are we in Region A?
I dunno but you cant use it.
What region are we in?
I dunno, But SIR< YOU CANNOT SHIP THIS PRIORITY BOX PRIORITY MAIL
I put a priority sticker over the REGION A
He refused.

Then another worker, Ryan, the senior emploee at this Office, came in from the back to announce a delivery truck had backed up to the loading dock.
The clerk turned and said, "RYAN YOU ARE ON LUNCH, and if you do ANY work, even opening the freight door and letting the driver of that truck in, I'll have you cited, is that clear!?
Ryan said" I was just telling you guys the truck was here"
" ThAT IS WORKING ON YOUR LUNCH AND IT IS FORBIDDEN AND YOU KNOW IT!"

wow.

I'll just use the automated teller from now on thank you.

I have just seen these regional boxes. I think they are ridiculous. Over engineering, this will lead to a lot of returned packages wasting even more resources they can't afford to lose.

I don't know about that lunch thing but there has to be some kind of bureaucratic work conduct thing in place. What ever, it's all just bizarre.

I have begun using the flat rate boxes more and more and I kind of like them. Very simple.

First Class packages take a bit longer to arrive overseas but I don't use it domestically. I won't allow for that after having tried it a few times.

I like the flat rate boxes since they got Sam Gamgee to advertize them.
