Van Diemen's Land is a 2009 Australian film about eight convicts that escape from
a penal colony in 1822. Located in what is later named Tasmania. Take's a strong
stomach to watch. At least for me. The idea of cannibalism is enough without them
carrying body parts in a sack over their shoulder. "Tastes like pork" as one said.
Billed as a true story. Alexander Pearce was later caught and executed. Background
to the beginning was non-existent. I knew about the penal colonies, but had to Google
for more. The death throw/convulsions quite graphic. Available on DVD, but not Blu-ray
to my knowledge. A real-life slasher movie and then some. I'd stick with Papillion.
I guess the best thing is the Jurassic-like landscape. I assume it was filmed in
Tasmania.
