Varnished K&C Figures (1 Viewer)

I don't think it is interesting. I think it ruins the figures.

I've been watching a lot of these out of curiosity. Looking at the price they're going for, compared with equivilant non varnished singles, I'd say they're down 50% or so in sale price.

Wonder if you could remove the varnish? Could the paint underneath be saved?

I reckon that would be hard work.
I would guess that if it was an oil based varnish, technically, it could, but I don't think it would be as scientific as that.

What might work is to spray a matt sealant / varnish over it, such as Testors dull cote.

A dull coat or matte spray or finish would probably work. I have used both spray dull coats(testors) & brush on matte(PollyS). The Figarti German officer with Sheppard had gloss spots around the decals on the collar so I dulled them with some brush on matte. Maye something to consider.....

Basically I collect gloss figures and had a look at the figure Gideon saw on ebay. I don't like it at all. To my eye it's all wrong.

I saw it too. I was going to buy a bunch before I stopped and saw the gloss.

Makes me want to cry.

I am afraid spraying matte over the varnish would glob up and dull contours.

One could try a brush on acryllic from Vallejo or GW. I mean those are great prices!

They say a picture or group of picture can be worth thousand of words. Here's a set of Trophy Gloss figures that were changed to a matte finish by using KRYLON'S Matte Finish spray paint 1311 and the results give them a factory painted look.....The Lt.

That does 'dull down' nicely Lt. and as you say, the look is like a factory finished matt.

The WWII figures on Ebay right now - are just ruined - IMHO.

I agree, I took a look at them and even at half the price, I couldn't bring myself to buy them.

I think it is funny that the person listing them advertises the varnish as a plus, when we all think it makes them unsellable.

I believe the individual selling the varnished figures knows that the varnish makes them unsellable, thus the low prices and the "big" sales pitch about the extra protection. That said, I do not think they look bad, I just don't care for altered figures. -- lancer
