Veteran's Day Coming Up Soon (1 Viewer)

You tell 'em Chuck. I have a new friend who has three Purple Hearts! (Mortar rounds and hand grenades) He earned them in Viet Nam. He is one of the nicest men anyone would ever meet. He said after watching 12 of the 44 guys he was with get killed, he decided if he survived he would not sweat the small stuff.

Do not forget to check out the WWP

Apparently, after Gen. Peter Pace's retirement ceremony, he went over to the Vietnam War memorial and left several notes for guys who were in his platoon in Vietnam. He pinned a set of his 4 stars to each note.

Just goes to show you has class and who does not.

My local paper and Town Selectmen made their feelings known about Military Service. Because they raised the Veterans Tax credit from $100.00 dollars to $500.00 dollars, they blame this for their high increase in our current property tax bills. Not the fact that they have been mismanaging money on buying things the Town could do without. This is probably happening all all the country, and you wonder why recruitment levels are down. Mike:mad:

Mike,

Excuse my ignorance, but what is 'Veterans Tax credit? What is it for / how does it work?

Simon, it's just a deduction the Town gives to Vets and their families for military service. For years our Town was only giving the Vets and their families $100.00 off their property taxes. Then a former group of Selectmen found other Towns gave up to as high as 1000.00 off. The former group voted to raise it to $500.00, but this new group of idiots we have running our Town, blame that extra $400.00 to Vets and their families for causing everybody's taxes for going up to much. I've been living in this Town for 42 years, and they never once had a layoff. Matter of fact, as times have gotten harder, they keep giving themselves 5% raises continually. Mike:rolleyes:

Thanks for the explaination Mike. What a good principle, just a shame that it becomes a political tool.

Cheers
Simon

Hi Mike,

Sounds like the idiot Selectmen in the town I grew up in had the same DNA pool, shallow...

Is veterans day the same as Armistice day. You know the 11th hour of the iith day of the 11 th month when we lay wreaths for all the fallen of WWI and WWII.

I have just been asked by the head of my Village's Civic Association to run for one of the three opening Trustee positions. I am very honored by the request, and if elected, I can promise you, I wouldn't put up with people grousing about veterans benefits for a heartbeat. You Vet's put your lives on the line for this Country, and a modest tax benefit is the least you are entitled to.

If Louis is elected a Trustee, we can look forward to a toy soldier in every pot and no taxation without a Warbird!

I recently visited San Francisco are rode on one of those new trollies brought from Milan, Italy that are running along the wharves. I noticed that there were several signs in Italian above the seats in the front of the car that read "reserved for wounded veterans." (I think if the gov. of San Francisco could read Italian, they probably would have removed the signs) Something to think about for American municiple transportation, I think.

Yes, Armistice Day was to honor the veterans of the Great War. It became Veterans' Day to commemmorate the later conflistcs.

When I was a kid, as when my mother was a kid, they used to call it Armistice Day. Wasn't there also a day called Armed Forces Day? I seem to remember that.

All I can say is, everyday is Veterans Day to me, when ever I see them, I say Thank You. I am not just saying that either, I just heard the Army did not make their recruitment quota, I thought someone said there is a War on, it seems only 1% of our Country is involved, how sad.Mike:(

You need to send this one to Bill O'Reilly at The O'reilly Factor. oreilly@foxnews.com
He was talking about some San Francisco nut again tonight trying to burn a church.

Gents,
This morning I received a pleasant surprise. As I walked out to retrieve my morning paper, I found an American Flag posted on my front lawn. Attaced to the flag was a note of thanks for serving my country and the local bank that provided the flag. Someone in my neigborhood posted flags in front of all of the local veterans. Pretty nice gesture and totally unexpected. It made me feel good that some people out there know.

My regards to all veterans past and present. Tomorrow morning the town is dedicating a new veteran wall to replace the old wwll wall. Their names will be on the wall along with the branch and service. One sad note is the company that paid for the stone wall and installation closed down with 250 jobs gone. The company been here over 70 years.
I also noticed a new veteran's wall on the Chippawa reservation. They had the names of all members of their tribe who served, and branch of service. There were two sides of names on a fairly large wall and a feather was engraved behind deceased veterans. Leadmen
