I don't do diorama much, but did want to set up a display
representing those that won the Victoria Cross in 1879
at Rorke's Drift and Isandlwana. So far I think these
are the only ones W.Britain has done [or has
announced]. Twenty-three recipients I believe.
BR20026- Lt. John Chad
BR20027 - Lt. Gonville Bromhead
BR20036 - Cpl. Christian Schiess
BR20037 - James Dalton, Commissary
BR20038 - Pvt. Alfred Hook
BR20042 - Set with Surgeon James Reynolds & Cpl. William Allen
BR20053 - Pvt. Frederick Hitch
WB39002 Lt. Teignmouth Melvill

Have I missed any? Frontline did do a set some years ago,
but I prefer WBritain Matte. It would be nice if they would add
the remaining Fourteen with a bang-up display to go along with
the figures.

I'm not familier with the total number of VC's awarded in the Zulu War but there sure weren't 23 awarded for the 2 actions mentioned. There were 11 for Rorke's Drift and many less for Isandlwana. If 23 VC's were issued it must be for the whole war in total. -- Al

Rorke's Drift, Isandlwana, Umfolozi, Intombe, Hlobane. Happy?

Google Zulu War Victoria Cross Recipients.
That's what I thought. 23 for the war as a whole sounded right. I think the Frontline set from yesteryear was for the Rorke's Drift action only. It was a nice set. -- Al

Frontline had two sets VCW.1 & VCW.2 both with the same nineteen figures.
Different packaging. One set had 1/5 scale ammo box to put them in. I'm not
a Frontline person so I passed. I only do King & Country, WBritains, Andrea,
Poste Militare and Stadden. Not counting the porcelain.

Here's by set of VCW 2 Set VCW 1 came in an ammo box BLReed which also included two Zulu Warriors. You can check my Frontline photo album which appears in my profile to see photos of the individual figures that are in the set. .........The Lt.

I saw your nice display of figures (really like that large one) in the other thread and was wondering if the campaign medal is original. I had a friend many years ago who had a couple of medals from the Zulu War and one looked like your campaign medal. That mounted figure is outstanding, also. -- Al

Hi There!
The plan is to do all of the VC winners from the Drift. As many of you know this is an ongoing series that we are continuing to add to. As a matter of fact I just finished three new sculpts for the series myself, and I know Alan is working on a couple more.
Hope this helps!

Let's not forget the other Distinguished Conduct Medal winners you've already done Colour-Sergeant Bourne Ken which was one of them;););)

Original medals? No, but I wish. I did run across orginals several
years ago in a shop in London---http://www.armoury.co.uk/
Several hundred pounds sterling then. The Helmet crest isn't
orginal either. To rationalize saving money, I think orginals
should stay in a family or museum.
