After a number of years I'm going to be working on some Vietnam stuff and was wondering if anyone could recommend a brand and shade (or a mixture) of paint(s) that best matches the color of standard-issue U.S. fatigues. When I first painted some figures it seemed to me that most uniforms I came across in photos looked to be between Testor's O.D. Green and Olive. I did notice a few examples of jackets and pants that were sun-faded, so I went with the O.D., but now I'd like to try and get as close to the color of "pristine" fatigues as possible.

I used an Olive Drab by HUMBROL for these guys, metal masters by Gun-Ho who used to make plastics from the Vietnam Era.

Yes the colour does look like its straight out of the Q-Store, and greens do fade in the sun, so maybe you could try another colour. Still these guys don't look too bad... do they???

John mate,
Nice paint job cobber but where are the Aussies.^&grin I can send you some OD Greens stored in the attic if your short. Maybe you could use an OD Green Tanksuit. You dropshorts could never get it right.^&grin

Those Gun-Hos are great looking and the green isn't bad at all! I have a set of the plastic Aussies and will use one or two as special forces guys. Wish I could have nabbed some of the Americans and VC figures years ago!

OK guys,

you asked for it...

Here are the VC

And the Aussies.... Royal Australian Regiment

Its a pity that you can't get these figures any more, I seem to have lost conatct with Gun-Ho and they have gone 'off the radar' and no one seems to be making figures from this era any more... well apart from Figarti, and K&C about 15 years ago.

John mate,
They are extremely nice. Brings back a lot of memories. If your come across any of those Aussies or VC at anytime, I'm up for a couple of sets if you will do the great paint job.
Cheers Howard
