Recently, I was able to get the retired Sikorsky H-34 “Choctaw” Helicopter from Tom Gunn. It was not the version I preferred. It was the version with white arrow “Rescue” markers. I made some yellow “Rescue” markers and overlaid them on the white arrow markers. Also added the unit’s mascot “Evil Eyes,” and the Commander’s name on the side of the sliding window.
I promised Tom to do some diorama depicting early days of the Vietnam war before the advent of the Huey. Here are some photos using static diorama and backdrop materials. I superimposed AI generated backgrounds to enhance and fill gaps my camera cannot cover. The first theme is a typical Firebase scene. Note: Marsden PSP. Got this photo mat from BAR and photocopied to 17% increase as the original was based on 1/35 scale. Marden PSP were later replaced with the M8A1 landing pads.
Same Firebase diorama can also be used as a WW2 Pacific Atoll Bases.
