Hi Guys

Thought I would share some pics from a tour of the military museums in Vietnam.

I never realised that Sam missiles were so big; the fuselage in one of the pictures was from US planes shot down over Hanoi, lots of B52's. I like the Hanoi Citadel shot, with the distinct flag and then for me, what is an iconic image of the war, a US Huey.

Interesting. I took a trip to Vietnam about 10 years ago. I did not venture to the north (hanoi), as were "billeted" in HoChiMinh city (Saigon). Im not old enough to have fought in the war, but found it a fascinating experience.

- Visted the War Museum in Saigon - officially named the "American War Crimes Museum". Dont know if it is still called that. Lots of pictures of american soldiers and dead vietnamese.
- Took a 2 day trip to the Mekong Delta and the tunnels at CuChi. Even after being widened for larger tourists' behinds the tunnels are still small and uncomfortable. Couldnt have imagined living down there. Earth above still shows evidence of artillery shelling. The metal hull of a destroyed tank sits at the tunnel entrance.
- Quite a few american jeeps could be seen on city streets. Assume they were leftovers. GI-style helmets, presumably also from the war, and other uniform artifacts, were available for purchase at stalls.
- We stayed in a hotel directly across from the hotel where much of the american military command and press corp lived.
- The quontset huts which sheltered US fighters/bombers still line the Saigon airport runway.
- The former american embassy was in process of being torn down.
- Vietnam is a very poor country. Left amazed that we put forth such a costly effort, in human terms, there.
