What got me hooked on 54mm collecting was a group of sets from Conte based on Don Troiani's paintings. They were sets of 6-7 figures with smaller add on sets.I had gotten these around the turn of the century.(makes me sound old doesn't it :D) and I loved these.Britains did this also with their Art of War series and are starting that back up again. What I was thinking that would be great if Jenkins could do this with Robert Griffing's paintings.I know this probably won't happen because you have to get the rights to do this and that would be expensive but who knows down the road.

Yeah, I agree, a bunch of guys, myself included :p, are always talking about what figures John should do next, and we always refer to Griffing's paintings. If not Griffing, then maybe Gary Zaboly, love his historical accuracy!

I don't know anything about Zaboly.

Hey Mark, Zaboly does some commissioned work for some books. He did a lot in a book about the alamo, The Blood of Noble Men, by Alan C. Huffines; and also the Texian Iliad by Stephen Hardin. He also did the pictures in The Annotated Journals of Major Robert Rogers by Timothy Todish. Also in one of osprey's books, American Colonial Ranger. For some image examples, do an image search for his name on google (not yahoo, msn, etc., some reason they don't show as many pics). This will give you an idea of the work he does; he does some paintings, but he does a lot of detailed black and white sketches; very detailed with a keen eye for accuracy. I personally think some of his best work is what he has done of the alamo, the two alamo books I mentioned give well drawn and researched pictures, check those out :)

I have seen some of his work, just didn't realize it.

Hey Mike, yeah he does, the two books I mentioned have lots of art in them, especially the the Annotated Journals of Robert Rogers, it is chock full of his drawings, even a bird's-eye view of Ft. Ticonderoga with French ramparts and abatis, if you don't have that book, definitely get it for the artwork and descriptions of the art. Gary knows a lot about the historical subjects that he draws, which makes them very accurate. Here is a link to amazon, hit "click to look inside" and look through the pages, too bad but it will only show you one picture, but a good representation of what he does. He actually wrote his own book, which is rare, either a person draws or writes, hardly ever both. That book is called A True Ranger: The Life and Many Wars of Major Robert Rogers. I have the book, if you want I can let you know some examples of other drawings in that book. You seem like a FIW buff, I think you should get it :D

Zaboly's book must be very good as only 2 used ones are available from Amazon, each $290.55!:eek:There is one on Advance Book Exchange for $140.

Here is Gary's Osprey volume on the Colonial Ranger illustrated by him in both color and B&W. A must have for Jenkins FIW collectors!

Getting back to the vignettes,I think John's style would lend itself to these. The only drawback is the costs. The Conte sets were a couple of hundred dollars 10 years ago what would be now?I would say $300-$400 range.
