A few weeks before Christmas I got an idea for a "thoughtful" gift for my wife at Christmas. When I happened to see the two W. Britain "Tower of London" sets Online I thought about getting these two figures and then put two photos of our July 1995 trip to the Tower of London into a new frame & have that be a backdrop for the two figures. The lower photo shows my wife, Karen, and our "Beefeater" (Peter) tour guide who is dressed just like the miniature figure of a "Ravenmaster". The upper photo shows the main entrence to the Tower of London. The "Executioner" miniature represents history of many years ago when assorted people got their heads chopped off at the Tower of London. For good measure I also got my wife a history book on King Henry the 8th. My wife did indeed give me credit for being "thoughtful" and really seemed to like the related gifts noted above. Ah, for once I got it right, ha, ha! By the way, I did give her other gifts to be on the save side. See one photo below.

Dear Gary,

That is a very nice gift that you gave to Karen for Christmas. It was indeed very thoughtful of you.

I am sure the photographs brought back pleasant memories of your trip to the UK 16 years ago.

Best wishes to both Karen and your goodself for the Christmas Holidays and the New Year.

All the Best, Raymond:)

Dear Raymond:

Thank you for your comments noted in the first reply back to this new Thread I started on 26 December 2011. Karen has decided to move the two "Tower of London" figures to the sides of the picture frame and indeed the two figures do show up better. See photos below which also show the figures in closeup detail.

By the way, have you ever paid a visit to The Tower of London in your trip or trips to the UK?

Best wishes for a Happy New Year in a few more days and above all a Happy Chinese Lunar New Year some weeks after that!

Sincerely, Gary

Dear Gary,

Karen has a good eye for the display of figures. I was admiring her new HK152 set in the SOHK display in the K&C section.

I think there was a discussion about the Ravenmaster and Executioner figures on the forum sometime back.....probably in this section. Did you know that William Britain made a Tower of London set ?

My first visit to the Tower of London was in September 1987. I made a second visit in October 2005.

Thanks very much for your good wishes for the New Year.

Take Care, Raymond:)

Dear Raymond:

In response to your third sentence & question noted just above. As I recall I noted the two "Tower of London" sets or figures at Treefrog Treasures' Website for the first time just recently. I never saw them before. I believe the Tower of London sets came under the general section or line of items called "Royal Palaces", but thus far there are only the two "Tower of London" figures thus far under this series apparently. I just noted that the copy write date on the bottom of these two figures' stands is the year 2007. The cost of these two sets is much less in comparison to W. Britain's more detailed matte sets. In any case, they would have some meaning to anyone who has paid a visit to the old Tower of London. If I recall my history correctly from our trip to the UK in 1995 the Tower of London was built in circa 1100 AD by the Normans who took over England in 1066 AD after the battle of Hastings.

Happy New Year, Gary

Dear Gary,

I was referring to the William Britain Collection : Famous Landmarks Series.

Set 8900 : Tower of London with Yeoman Warders x2 and Scots Guards Sentry & Flag mounted on a polished wood base.

The set is pictured below.

Best Wishes, Raymond. :)

Note: I think there is a forum member offering this set for sale under the Classifieds.

Dear Raymond:

Ah, so you were referring to another W. Britain series of "Famous Landmarks". I think King & Country has the largest range of sets covering many topics. But W. Britain is perhaps next in offering a large assortment of items of interest. I find their "River Nile" series interesting. By any chance did you buy their Sudan War river gun boat for $1,150.00 USD? I actually thought about getting the W. Britain River Nile Gun Boat, but then decided not to make the investment. I'll look up the W. Britain "Famous Landmarks" series later.

Happy New Year, Gary

Dear Gary,

Just some further information on the William Britain Famous Landmarks Series. In addition to the Tower of London set, there is the Horseguards Arch set and the Houses of Parliament set. These sets were released in the early 1990's and are now long retired. The sets sometimes appear on eBay UK and eBay US and the asking price varies from USD $60.00 and $80.00 per set.

I have no plans to get the Sudan War river gun boat. Most of my Trophy Sudan collection are mounted sets ie 21st Lancers and mounted Camel Corps, so it would not blend in so well.

All the Best for the New Year and Happy Collecting,

Cheers, Raymond.:)
