Also this year, along the streets of Sinimäe village in the municipality of Vaivara, located north-east Estonia,they marched unmolested on the Estonian national anthem.
The veterans of the 20th Waffen-Grenadier-Division der Schutz-Staffeln, Baltic component of the paramilitary elite of the German Nazi Party, accompanied the march, from various units of the Wehrmacht, including veterans of the Waffen SS in Austria and Norway.
As reported from SputnikNews, the meeting ended with the deposition of several wreaths in memory of the soldiers who fought on the side of Nazi Germany and was greeted by the Minister of Social Affairs of the country and chairman of the parliamentary group "of the Homeland Union and Republic "Margus Tsahkna that showed no embarrassment. According Tsahkna, in fact, Sinimäe honors the memory of those who "with weapons in hand defended his people, his family and his country".
The 20th Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS, formed in February 1944 with the elements proceeds from the 3rd Brigade Estonian volunteers, comprised three infantry regiments, an artillery regiment, a pioneer battalion, a Flak anti-tank company and one for a total of about 15,500 men.
In the same year the division was sent to the front. Their task was to strengthen the defensive line in defense of the river bridgehead Narva, allowing the bulk of the German troops retreat to the German border and contributing to the attempt at containment of the Soviets advance.
