Hello Deitz, The Lt., and Wadepat, thank you for the encouraging and friendly welcome here.
Lt., special thanks to you for directing me to this forum.
I can't express how grateful I am for you "taking me under your wing" with the lengthy telephone calls and e-mails. I'm sorry I killed so much of your time on the phone. Your friendly sharing personality, your posted diorama of the Zulu War and all the tips you have given me have been inspirational and most instrumental in my pursuit and acquiring of the supplies I've needed, the merchants to contact and the techniques to assemble and create my project.
So, thanks again Joe.
I'm going to try and show some photos of my Napoleonic Era figures in another post soon. I'm hoping to trade them for more Frontline Zulu Era. I'm hoping to use my Napoleonic and Civil War to supplement more acquisitians, but am willing to purchase outright.
As I stated, I'm currently collecting Frontline metal painted 54mm. They are my first choice and I'm running out of suppliers. I get the same response from the merchants, "We are currently out but should have an order delivered soon. We can call you, if you want."
The merchant also almost always follows with this disclaimer , "Frontline usually ships about a third of our order and they give us no explanation to why we didn't get the rest of our order."
Apparently Frontline is having a hard time supplying merchants with the Zulu Era, so pickings are getting slim, but I'm guessing all you serious collectors know this already.
I was hoping to find someone on here that maybe wanted to part with some Frontline Zulu or 24th Foot collection.
I chose Frontline because I think they are a little bigger, thicker and a sturdier figure than the WM Britains. The Frontline seem to have more girth than the Britains, maybe not a true 54mm.
I especially prefer the facial detailing of the Frontline compared to the Britains. Not only do they detail the eyes and face better, but you can almost see the anguish and pain in their faces. Of course that is just my humble opinion.
The Britains Zulu's faces are not even painted, no eyes, no lips, etc..
The Britains Osprey Editions are as detailed as the Frontline, but $4-$6 more per soldier. So I chose the Frontline, not trying to irritate any hardcore Britain collectors, it's just my opinion.
So any collectors of Frontline Zulu Era, please feel free to contact me.
I've been looking at the Conte painted metal Zulu Era 54mm. They seem to be more affordable than both Frontline and the Britains. They look really good, but I've never held one, I've only seen photos.
Has anybody bought some and do they appear to be similar to the Frontline series, in quality, size and especially facial detail?
The pictures look good, but it's hard to tell, the Conte's faces look amazingly good for the price though.
Okay, I've rambled enough for my first reply as a newbie.
Again, if anyone can comment on the Conte Zulu Era or might be interested in selling or swapping, let me know.
I'll try and post some photos of my Napoleonics as soon as possible.
Thanks for the warm welcome,
Michael
