I really need some really light khaki or beige. Something almost like a off white to light Brown. I am trying to paint the color of the pants on Napoleonic french. I want the type of shade that King And Country uses on its French infantry. info on that or I will buy it. Preferebly acrylic. post a reply. I have a paypal account and would buy right away if someone can send me a photo of the color and it will work.

I would try dirty white or doped linen for that off white color. Both colors should give you the color that your looking for.

does andrea, citadel, or humbrol make the doped linen. Dirty white? does it have to be home mixed or is there a manufacturer that makes it?

I,m sure there are a few different companies making dirty white but the doped linen color I have is made by polly scale wich is from testors company, they also make the dirty white color and the two colors are very similar.

I,m not sure if they are acrylic or enamel as its not listed on the bottle but I think you,ll like both colors. They are also great for adding highlights to white like in the folds and creases in the clothing of white pants or coats of figures.
The other option would be to mix your own paints.

I would check companies like model master of floquil also, they have a wide varity of paints and should have these colors also.

I have painted a few french figures with these colors using the dirty white and doped linen for the pants of the figures and you get a nice contrast between the white of the pants and the white of the shirts like this.
Its also nice to help the white straps stand out from a white shirt.

I,ll see if I can find some pictures of some french I,ve painted using these colors so you can see if you like the results before you go crazy looking for these colors.

Heres a picture Of the dirty white on the pants of these guard figures. Its a little more subtle then vamps buff color. I don,t know how off white you want to go??? You could darken the dirty white or lighten the buff color a bit to zero in on what it is your looking for.
I think the doped linen color is what you are looking for if your going to paint french infantry figures. I myself think the buff is a little to dark myself but there your figures and troops on campaign would use what ever cloth they could find and make them look the best they could

I,ve read stories of how they would raid enemy uniform stores and have thier tailors make the enemy uniforms look as french as they could in a pinch.

the color in the airfix french infantry is exactly what I am looking for. Who makes that off white? The doped linen is by polly scale?

Those are both by polly scale and I think you,ll be happy with either one of them as they are both very similar in color.
I would do a web search for polly scale and see what you come up with. I can,t remember where I got mine, I picked it up at either the hobby bunker or one of the hobby shops in my area. I can,t remember but dirty white is very common and you should be able to find it no problem. The doped linen might be a little harder to find but i,m sure a bit of web searching will dig that up also.

Another 'out of the pot' colour you might want to look at is Games Workshop 'Bleached Bone'. Sorry, I haven't got anything painted up in it at the mo.

Another suggestion would be to use the Humbrol Linen from their 'Ancients range' I think this was part of the matt range some years ago.

I found some of the bleached bone in a comic book store in Athens Ga. I used it to paint the hats of some 7th cavalry and I think it looks great for the pants as well on the french
