When I was young and learned about the AWI I thought all the battles were mostly in the northeast with a couple down south and as far west as Kentucky (I watched Daniel Boone ^&grin) Little did I know there was battles as far west as the Mississippi River. I didn't even know that St. Louis existed back then .Up until the Louisiana purchase I though it was all wilderness except for indians and a few hunters/trappers. Well now I know the French came down from Canada or up from Louisiana and established quite a few towns and by the time of the AWI this territory was ruled by the Spanish. So I've been reading about Americans under George Rogers Clark who came west and fought the British and Indians. Spanish and French militia fought as allies of the Americans.I thought this might be of interest to some.

This is very interesting Mark, thanks for posting. You're right about this being a grossly overlooked area of the AWI history. Few have written about it. It's good to see this group publishing some books on the topic!! No major battles occurred in the west like they did in the colonies but those that did had an impact for sure. BTW, SC and our very own NJ were the 2 states that saw the most fighting/battles in the AWI.

WB currently has some figures from Clark's Illinois regiment available:
