I thought we might have discussed the War of 1812 as a new line for JJ Designs ??

Last night on the History Channel - I watched a program on Andrew Jackson and his seizure of Florida from the Spanish in 1818. It was really great - I was familar with most of the history being from Florida - but, the program was well done.

Then a thought hit me ! What if John Jenkins did Americans in the War of 1812-14 and produced some Seminole and Creek Indians !!

I think you could have a range that would cover at least a 8 - 10 year range of US Infantry ? I havent researched the Uniforms that carefully - but, I am willing to bet that the Uniform for 1814 is the same as 1818 ??

You have Andrew Jackson and lots of various uniforms to do. :)

This could be a very cool range to produce - especially since there is a gap in the market for this period.

I would certainly buy them!!!
K&C probably wouldn't offer competition--the idea seems unpopular to them and many other companies.
There is a thread about uniforms under Historical Discussions.

Sorry, make that General Toy Soldier Discussion, under "American Napoleonics."

This is a much misunderstood period of history vs mythology as far as US/Britsh relations. It is also a little understood area as far as the appearance of the US Regular Federal Army, the various State Volunteer organizations and the Regular British Regiments, their supporting Fencible units in Canada, and the Native population. These are indeed the 'backwoods Napoleonic campaigns' and in some ways are every bit as interesting as the larger conflict in Europe.
To the collector there is the added advantage of the smaller scale as far as setting up more realistic displays.
The following is a good example of the general lack of press on this conflict:
George Armstrong Custer adopted Monroe Michigan as his home town as a youth and there is even a monument to him downtown. Despite his notable service in the War Between the States, He is now remembered for the disasterous loss of his command in 1876. Few people even know that Monroe...once known as Frenchtown, was the scene of two battles and a massacre along the banks of the River Rasion in January of 1813. This action resulted in more US dead than the Little Big Horn 63 years later.

Wonder if John is looking to do this period - it would be very cool with his style of figures

As I said, I would buy them.
A neat one would be Craney Island, but that involved no Indians.
There are many possibilities, though.

Let press this issue with John - I think War of 1812 with Indians would be a great line to start - dont you ??

There is a Gary Cooper movie on the Seminole War called "Distant Drums." I remember seeing it at the Saturday matinee in the 1950s.

Ron,

The period sound very interesting.

But I do not think John's new series will be that. Maybe in the future. :(

I would go back to the Old Country or Europe on your thinking if I was you. :D

Aussie Monty :)

Sorry to jump in on your thread, so could it be ECW or Thirty Years War?

Jeff

I was under the impression that the line was going to be extended to include the conflict on mainland Europe...The Seven Years War. This would make sense as many of the basic sculpts can be reconfigured to increase the range.

I agree with Ken.
Besides one could use the Buildarama buildings with the marching sets of the 44th.

If JJ ever does do US troops of the Napoleonic era, an interesting theme would be Little Turtle's War, with the Battle of Fallen Timbers, etc. No one makes those, I'm sure. Would it be appealing to a wide audience? I would like to think so...
