The bi-centennial of the war of 1812 is almost here. The war was conducted in two distinct theatres. The invasion of Upper Canada and the naval war on the Eastern Seaboard.

Here is an interesting article on the war and what celebrations are planned for the bi-centennial.

http://www2.macleans.ca/ It's item #1 of the five.

Thanks for posting this. The article nicely encapsulates the War of 1812, especially from the often-neglected Canadian perspective.

If I may offer a clarification, two landings supported by the Royal Navy--the Chesapeake campaign, which saw Washington captured and burned, followed by the failed attempt to take Baltimore, and then the failed attempt to capture New Orleans.

By coincidence, I just finished re-reading Walter Lord's "By Dawn's Early Light", which describes the Chesapeake and New Orleans campaigns, and the impact on the treaty negotiations.

The war hasn't been too well represented in our hobby, but now Ken Cliffe/All the King's Men has a good variety now of figures from the period in his catalog.

Prost!
