I purchased a code 3 W. Britains short wheel base land rover for my R4a Jadotville mercenaries. It will be part of a larger shelf display for this range. I decided to model this toy as a civilian vehicle in the employ of the Union Minerale Haute Katanga which had a hand supporting the Katangan separatist movement. For reference purposes I consulted the following website on Minerva Land Rovers and armored jeeps used in the Congo during the Katanga crisis. https://cj3b.info/History/Congo18.html Albeit, it is artist license, I used some scrap plastic to make an improvised armored wind screen. I also used Testors decal paper for the lettering on the door. The figure next to the land rover is a R4a merc.

This vehicle was very play worn and the wind shield was missing. I used goo gone to remove the decals and the white paint. Next, I primed the vehicle with Tamiya gray color primer, and then spray it with a Tamiya British racing green. I weathered the vehicle with pastels and the packs are from a 1/32 Airfix multipose British Infantry kit.

I used my cellphone for the pics, which are not great, but you get the idea.
Enjoy.

Great Idea....
Could be a great add-on for modern military collectors wishing to give their troops some sets of wheels...
Cheers

Hi Luiz,

Thanks. I prefer to collect 54 mm, so 1/30 scale vehicles are not an option. Sometimes one can sneak in a 1/35 vehicle.

I have a WB daimler coming in the mail. I am also working on a NewRay jeep that I am converting for use in my Jadotville range. I took apart the jeep and removed the spring and patched the hole with plastic. Will post when it is done.

Cheers,
Benjamin

Dinky Toys also make a very nice Jeep - which is compatible with many 54mm figures, and there are loads of these about second-hand. I bought these two for a Fiver apiece and repainted them to suit my collection of Timpo WW2 US Troops ( sculpted by Roy Selwyn-Smith).

The driver, passenger figures came from Dorset Toy Soldiers, who make them to "fit-in" with these other well known figures. I have added a couple in to show how well they do go with the rest of the set. jb
