I just watched this last night. The DVD is available from NETFLIX. An English village fights back when invaded by Germans posing as Royal Engineers. It's a tale told by a townsman in the future after the Allies have won. Pretty good with a cast of character actors representing "regular" people.

Now you are talking Scott:).I love this movie and have the dvd as i am really interested in Home front/Propaganda films. The scene in which the old lady throws Pepper in the Germans face and then does him with an axe was pretty shocking for the time.

I loved that lady! I mean to be kind when I am saying she looked like Susan Boyle's Grandmother. Not many "pretty faces" in the film but as it was supposed to be about regular folk fighting back.

I noticed that the women characters had good strong roles.

Yeah she had B**** alright!.As you say very strong female characters throughout, how about the woman who grabs the hand grenade and runs out with it,killing herself but saving the kids. And also the other lady who on discovering the traitor is downstairs, calmly takes the revolver goes downstairs and kills him.I love the way the film is a flag waver for the spirit but is also a not so subtle warning to the public about the dangers of Nazi's among us.

There is another short film (10 mins)called 'Miss Grant goes to the door' in which we see how two calm ladies deal first with a wounded Fallschirmjager and then a German dressed as a British officer, its fascinating stuff and again scared people who were in fear of the German invasion at the time.

The later film "The Eagle has Landed" with Michael Caine was based on the same story by Graham Green (?) which had been rehashed by Len Deighton.

Yes, when The Eagle has Landed was mentioned on another post it reminded me of Went the Day Well that I hadn't seen in 30 + years.
