What Ever Happened to the Old Toy Soldier Home?? (1 Viewer)

Greetings everyone,

I've been out of the country for about a year and a half; spending time with family in Lithuania. During this time, it would appear that Craig McClain's "Old Toy Soldier Home" is no longer operating. I'm quite stunned to hear about this loss to the Southern California Toy Soldier World. And as it was only a 25 minute drive from my house, I do lament their closing.

Does anyone know if they are still operating at all? I did hear that they had a booth at the West Coaster...

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Their website doesn't indicate anything about closing that I can see ? They have an April special posted on the main page.

Unless they have just closed the bricks and mortar store?

Their brick and mortar store has been closed for about two years. They closed up just before I was leaving. The owner, Craig, told me that he was planning on opening a new shop. However, There's no new brick and mortar store. I've driven to the old location a few times because there's a really good Italian restaurant close by...

As for the website, I've ordered a few times, but every order has been refunded, and they email me and say that they are "out of stock." I did hear that the owner's health was going south.

I've just been trying to piece together what's happening. Perhaps I need to start ordering from other shops?

Thank you. However, They haven't listed any new K&C or Britains (Or anything actually) for over a year it would appear. As for their homepage, it lists a link to the 26th annual West Coaster, when it was actually the 27th this year. It really seems like the site has been inactive for awhile...

Craig is still recovering from a series of severe physical problems and hasn't been able to update the list. He's one of the most courageous people I've ever known and I'm sure he'll update the list as soon as he's physically able. Don't be afraid to email him and ask for what you want. Andy, his son, has been pretty good answering.

Looks like they aren't operating any longer. I remember the one time I did go to the Vista shop, the owner was yelling at someone. I could barely spend ten minutes in there before his incessant nagging drove me out. I felt bad for the employee who was being berated. Luckily there was a great family-run Italian restaurant down the street; was it Fabrizio's, or Feliccis? Something like that.

Anyways, the folks at Sierra are swell to work with, as are Sager's. Glad there's plenty of dealers out there!

It appears I'm not the only person who remembers the local Italian food. I just googled it, and I think its Feliccias. Looks like they're still in operation.

The OTSH website is also down. If anyone has Woody Lambrith's phone number, please pass it along and I'll give him a call. Craig has had numerous physical problems since an industrial accident many years ago . . . but he always has a smile and a cheery word. Simply amazing guy!
