If there was to be a new manufacturer of 54mm figures that specialized in the French and Indian War (besides JJ, Frontline and Tommy Atkins) within the next few months - Russian quality sculpting and painting - what would the most desired figure line(s) consist of? Being a member of this forum I've heard Ticonderoga many, many times and I share that voice. So if Ticonderoga what selection of figures? Blackwatch? Light Bobs? Wounded? Action poses? More indians? Character figures? Matte? Gloss? Would models of the breastworks be of interest? Any other battles or moments? Fort William Henry? Please consider this thread just like a focus group. Love to hear the opinions of all concerned. Cheers, ssorc1

Ticonderoga is the white whale of FIW. Montcalm, Black Watch, Death of Lord Howe, Duncan Campbell. Anything would be great.

Ft. William Henry for me.Action poses dead and wounded,Munro and even the Last of the Mohicans characters even though not real.indians, indians and more indians.

I agree, agree and agree more! Excellent suggestions! Lets hope someone is listening!

I love the French-Indian War. Barzo had/has ? a stone fort that could be Ticonderoga and his new wood fort could be Fort William Henry. I like gloss but I have some Frontline matt Indians that I really like. Some of the Britains Redcoats and Bluecoats could also be part of it.

I have to agree with Mark and Apache,

I have read a lot of history lately on Ticonderoga,

which has been involved in so many conflicts,

but I have seen the Last of the Mohicans,

at least 20 times,:eek::eek::eek:

and I would love to own
a Chingachgook,
a Magua,
a Hawkeye,
a Uncas,
a Col. Munro,
etc...getting the picture, lol.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

So, it's going to have to be Fort Henry for me.

That movie, is probably why I collect John Jenkins.

I even bought the soundtrack, which if you have not heard it, it is inspiring.:cool::cool::cool::cool:

Ticonderoga sounds good, however for me it would depend how closely the figures matched up with JJD & Frontline.

I've bought a couple of figures from other manufacturers in the past, and they just didn't sit right with my current collection. Just looked plain odd.

Thanks

Pete

Have to agree on "The Last of the Mohicans". Seen it many times myself. I would like to re-create the massacre in the glade, which would not take too much effort because of the base similarity to JJD's Monongahela series. British in the middle, with camp followers and militia, and Indians on the outsides. Does not seem too much a jump. Just need the correct regiments. -- lancer

I've heard mention of the Barzo stone fort a couple of times. Is it still available? Are there any pictures of it anywhere? (whether or not it's still available, I'd just like to see apicture of it)

Thanks

Pete
Hello Pete, www.michtoy.com
, New Releases,Finished Scenic & Diorama...lists a SINGLE Barzso stone fort (with some pics) at an incredibly low rate.
Best,John

If a manufacturer did come along and did FIW with Russian quality I hope they would release their figures/sets slower then Jenkins so people could collect them at a slower pace because if they were like FL and the figures were $50+ each it would be hard for a lot of us to keep up.I just got to the point that I couldn't keep up with Jenkins.Just remember one thing,Last of the Mohicans Rock.

Hey Mark,

Being a collector myself, my goal is in keeping the cost down but opening up some sets and figures that simply haven't been covered - even in the interest of my own collection. The quality of the Russian work is outstanding and I would be designing the various figures and sets myself (with a friend and connection). Can't promise anything of course but I am on it.
Sort of chasing a childhood dream I guess. This is of course of no disrespect to Mr. Jenkins as I will always have space on my shelves for his figures and will continue to buy them until he decides to stop making them. If I could offer him anything I'd go to Hong Kong and help the guy if it would get me Ticonderoga, William Henry and yes... Last of the Mohicans. I hear you!

Best of luck Mike,to you and all of us.Haven't heard from Ilya.

Because Last of the Mohicans is a fictional story in the context of historical events it's not clear if the suggestion is to recreate the characters from the book or historical events or both. I would be lukewarm to fictional characters. Would prefer to focus on real historical personalities and events.

Last of the Mohicans - at least the film - is a licensed property so there would be little chance of attempting that series based on the movie, especially if likenesses were involved. Barzso had done a great job but not sure what he paid for the rights and what legal situation the rights are at this time. I know that getting the rights to actor likenesses is very difficult and expensive and sometimes the actor can just say no. The book however is open to interpretation though so no harm in combining the fictional LOTM with the actual characters and events: Munro, Montcalm, the Fort itself etc. Great artists like Wyeth have taken their turn with LOTM to great result.

I normally would too Combat but I feel the characters from the movie were special.I would want 99.9% to be historically accurate but it wouldn't hurt to have these in 2 or 3 sets.

I have a historical kit of Hawkeye and it looks like Daniel Day Lewis, of course the company that made it was in Korea and no longer in business.

My first intention in creating a series of figures was to provide a link between all of the various manufacturers: especially Jenkins and Frontline in scale and detail. Something that would fit on the shelf alongside what we have already collected through these manufacturers. There will always be gaps and in some cases gaping holes in the FIW for collectors. Jenkins would do a masterful job on Ticonderoga but not sure it will happen or if it is an interest of his and I don't blame him. Although when I un-boxed my Jacobites a couple of them brought a tear to my eye as I saw the Black Watch for a brief moment. Frontline as well seems to have slowed down on new releases. Not sure how their sets do overall. They are very well made, they just don't have Jenkins action poses. I will take into consideration all of what is being said and believe me I'm a FIW collector first and foremost and that's usually the best place to start. Please keep the ideas coming. Cheers, ssorc1
