Hiya,
I too have been planning for years to do a big Arnhem diorama. slowly collecting parts. What I have learnt thats it best to just get the parts you need made by an expert then put them all together. No one place sells everything you need and getting Dutch buildings from WW2 period is really difficult.
I used the older K&C building facades and jetties/bridge and vehicles/figures and Dept 56 canal sections in the photo below to make a small "on the road to Arnhem" scene but for a larger diorama I would just get them custom made as you can never find off the shelf everything you need to fit in the space you have. sorry for photo quality below - just took with my phone camera so you can get the idea.
I use 2 places in Europe to get diorama stuff done by experts at reasonable prices;
1. David Marshall at TM Terrain.
http://www.tmterrain.co.uk/gallery/ Take a look at his website and see the gallery of what he makes - everything!
2. Carlo Terrinoni at Carter Scenics in Italy. He has custom made stuff for me and Ive bought quite a few of his custom buildings which are just beautiful.

JG Miniatures in England will also custom make some top notch stuff, see their website;

There must be similar places in the USA you can get custom stuff done like this. Im hoping other forum readers know of them and can list here.
Good luck!
Cheers,
