Hi Pworbagpiper,
Can I ask what your collecting interests are for the Napoleonic Era ? Are you focused on a specific Battle or Belligerent ? With almost 400 different figures covering Bavaria ,Westphalia and Wurttemberg , Imperial Russia, Austrian, and Great Britain. First Legion provide you not only with French and British, but also Austrians, Russians, Prussians and the myriad of British and French Allies such as Nassau , Brunswick, Westphalia, Wurttemberg and soon to be Grand Duchy of Warsaw to name few . There is certainly much to choose from... so far First Legion focus on the battles of Borodino , Waterloo and Aspern-Essling .
I was first drawn in by the Bavarians which are about gone now :( , I Would be Happy to recommend something for you to check out .. So whats your poison :wink2: Regards Gebhard

My favourite area is the Peninsular War (thank Bernard Cornwell for that!^&grin) but I also like their Prussians and Austrians! What do you collect Gebhard?

I have the same problem. There are so many to choose from that even an organized approach like Gebhard suggests still leaves me overwhelmed. As I am not doing large dioramas, I just get a few of each regiment I like.

And yes, isn't it nice to have a dealer in Ontario selling FL.

Pworbagpiper,

Welcome to the gang! I collect Naps from Waterloo, mainly British. I have the Foot Guards (sold out now I'm afraid) and some 95th rifles (The Sharpe-esque figure is amazing as are the rest of his chosen men!). Next I will pick up Wellington and Uxbridge but I am considering extending into French and Prussian troops from Waterloo but I will hold off until I see what the four new ranges that FL is releasing this year are. I just watched the movie 'Waterloo' this afternoon so my wallet is getting afraid! The new FL Romans are becoming very tempting also given that I am originally from England just near to Hadrian's Wall!

I am in NB, Canada right on the border so I am lucky that I can buy stuff in the States and get it shipped to an address in Maine and pick it up there and bring it over the border myself...save on shipping that way!

I know now I will not have to pay duty fees {bravo}}. I am thinking of starting off with the 95th and a few Gordons.

I have moved out of the FL Naps in order to stick with FL's AWI, but, from my past experience, you won't be disappointed by whatever you decide to do. As the other FL collectors will tell you, the quality and breadth of the Napoleonic range is superb. Like Gebhard already mentioned, FL's coverage of the minor nations is a huge plus. And, since it sounds like you are a Peninsula fan, there are enough suitable releases to keep you busy for a while!

Are you happy with the AWI? I recently got really interested in the AWI after reading Ward's "War of the Revolution" but I decided that Naps had more options.

Hello ,
Do you know Bill{Spitfrnd} ? He is another student of the Peninsula and a very nice chap . I'm sure you don't need me to tell you what units were engaged during that Campaign so My recommendation would be put together a list of units you would like to make part of your collection and start in order of release date as some of the earlier releases are becoming soldout . I would start with the Standard Bearers and Drummers as they seem to go first . There are several guys who just collect them as a study of the Uniforms and colors .
What I collect is and I know I'm crazy but at least one of every Napoleonic product being released from First Legion :redface2: I'm kinda lucky as I got on board with the first release and try to keep up , I'm starting to fall behind as they have pulled me into Stalingrad , Crusaders , Romans , and now the Renaissance . GOD it looks bad in writing {sm2} .
As for Napoleonics I love it all...I'm a life long student of the Era but if pressed I would have to say The 36 or so states of the Confederation of the Rhine and The Prussians , Austrians , KGL and Brunswick hold a special place to me . To me as well nothing says Napoleonics like good old French Line Infantry {bravo}} . Regards Gebhard and welcome aboard

I am really into First Legion figures too but tend to take a breadth approach rather than depth. That is because I am really into several other ranges from other manufacturers as well. If you have an interest in the AWI, then you can't go wrong with those figures. They are among the very best FL makes. The colonial militia have great variety in poses and clothing. I have at least one from the Crusader, Roman, Stalingrad, AWI (about 35 of those), French Line Infantry, Gordons, and Bavarians. If you want variety, there are two good ways to do it with FL. I would say among the ranges, you will get the most variety with Napoleonics, obviously, because of all the colorful uniforms, the many mounted figures, and the different armies. You can also get variety by dabbling in a few of each range or a few of each Napoleonic regiment. Very often I will order one from a range just to have a sample in my display, and then depending on my interest in the period or enjoyment of the figure, I will order more or keep it to one. Just from my own perusing of the Napoleonic offerings, I think the Prussians and Austrians look incredibly good! Across all the lines, I think FL is absolutely at its best with drummers and flag bearers. I am particularly impressed when I examine the details of these figures with a magnifying glass.

Whatever line(s) you choose, you will be happy!

I pick and choose because I am running out of room (just look at my TF album) :) Just received today the beauty below. I also have Lord Uxbridge and the French line infantry sapper. I love the details of the FL figures and will probably add more. I am more enclined to buy the mounted ones although I made a few foot soldiers exceptions (I have a couple Brunswickers in pre-order). I would love to see them produce some mamelukes (hint, hint!).

To answer your question, yes, I am very happy with the AWI range First Legion has created. However, I don't mean to hijack this thread away from the Napoleonic Era. By all means, you should go with what you want to do. As you say, FL's Nap range does have a lot more options, so it comes down to what you want your collection to include. If you want to pick up a couple of each Nap release, like Terry and Gebhard do, then you will have an excellent, varied collection by staying with the Nap range. First Legion excells at producing a huge varity of Nap units, both well-known and the less common. It has consistently been their flagship range for a reason!:)

I bought a few pieces, middle of last year. It was the British 1st Foot Guards { I am Intrigued, By the British Square}, And they really Are Great looking!!. I would have bought one of each piece. But, Taking care of my Mom took precedence. She was 88 yrs. old and her health was declining as each day passed. So I worked less. And did not look at all on any, So I will not get tempted. My Mom passed away, On Dec. 12 (miss her a lot), And just started looking back at This great hobby of Ours. And sawthat there is Hardly any pieces left of the First foot guards. I guess I lost on that one too. I just hope that one day First Legion will revisit them.
So a word of advise . Once you have picked. Stay on that line until you have gotten every piece, or are tottaly content with what you have.

Very sorry to hear about the loss of your mother , no doubt you made the right choice in spending as much time as you could with her . I can tell you from my own past experience you will not regret a single minute of it , and will look back on it as one of the best decisions you ever made . Again you have My Deepest Sympathies in your Great loss .
I'm sure FL will be producing many more British figures in the coming years don't worry about that . Regards Gebhard
