Mike,
not too many options, but Armies in Plastic have several box sets of modern US troops, based on the Figarti figures. George G at Minutemen T.S. stocks them. There's 12 poses in total, a couple of dubious ones, but most are good. There's a fair bit of blocking where undercuts would have been nice, but other than that, they're fine.
If you want to go a bit further back, Airfix did 5 sets in the 70s and 80s. Modern German and Modern British Infantry, suitable for the 70s or 80s, SAS in Iranian Embassy seige finery, and Modern Russian and US troops, circa early 80s, the latter 2 sets being pretty poor.
Also around the same time, Esci released 3 sets (if memory serves me correctly) which were fair, but with an odd selection of offerings in each set. These however are 1/35, not 1/32.
The last of the mainstream that spring to mind is a set by Revell, modern panzer grenadiers. Again, these are more 1/35 than 1/32.
There are a few odds n sods from Russia, including a set of 4 chunky Taliban and a set of 7 or 8 Russian riot police. Len Cooksey in the UK has also just done some 80s Russian / Afghan troops.
Can't think of anymore off the top of my head.
cheers
Simon
