So, it does take me a while to figure my way around this site and while I was just "clicking around" its various pages (now there' a new term, "clicking around") I discovered something that I do not know what it is. Perhaps I am not alone and others would like to know also.

What in the world is the purpose for the column entitled "Reputation" and what is the meaning of the small green or black square that are associated with our forum names (it also appears under the heading for any posting we may author). I found, when I ran my mouse' pointer over the square, that it has the caption stating, "on a distinguished road" associated with it. Shannon has a black one that says hers is disabled. Does this mean Shannon has a disability in dealing with her reputation? I would rather like to think it means that it is just turned off. But, why would she turn it off; what is the need to turn off your "on a distinguished road" icon; but more important, what is the purpose of such a designation on this forum? Michael

Dear Michael,
You don't miss much do you? This was something I added last night but I'm still not sure it's something we will keep for our forum.

User Reputation in its simplest form is a ranking of each user's benefit to the forum. Its basis comes from the opinions of all of the forum users that choose take part in it.

Users gain and lose reputation based on how their posts are scored by other forum participants. Users with the ability to affect reputation, will either give or take aways points by approving or disapproving with a post's content.

I really like our rankings based on how many posts have been posted so I'm not sure we need a reputation ranking also. It is just an idea I wanted to see what you all thought of. I finally got the forum completely upgraded last night and have been trying out new things.

All comments are welcome so either post your opinion here or send me an email.

Regards,

To paraphrase Groucho Marx, I would not want to be a member of any forum that would be willing to have me. I think that this reputation feature is a recipe for disaster. This could get ugly fast. I would cut this feature before we have real personality conflicts.

I agree with Louis. Before, if someone disagreed with you, they had to post a reply which could be viewed by all and responded to. Based on your description, it appears that members can now anonymously approve or disapprove of a member's post.:(

Yeah I don,t like the idea either brad will have me in siberia within a week with my bad sense of humor!!!! Just kidding brad please don,t hit the button.:D _________________________________________________________________ TIM

So Shannon, who are the users with the ability to judge and condemn and send us malcontents to the oblivion of displeasure and unacceptance. Can ya tell that I think this is not a good feature to use in this forum. We seem to be able to police ourselves with a sense of manners and respect. Please do not activate this one. You really are great in presenting it for our comments and I would not want to discourage you from trying new "stuff" on us. But this one has to go. :D Michael

Well, since I haven't seen a single comment in favor of the reputation rank, and I wasn't very sold on it myself, away it goes.
In answer to your question Michael, with the feature enabled you might have noticed a little balance scale in the right hand corner above each post. Any user could rate the post by clicking on the scale.
Apparently the administrator is unrateable. Everyone else I clicked on was "on a distinguished road" so I wonder what road I was on? The one less traveled maybe?
We get along very well on our forum which is how I like it but the reputation ranking could easily be used to blackball a member so I agree it is better left disabled. If it really bothers you to read any certain members posts all you have to do is put them on your "ignore" list and poof! anything they post will be invisible to you. If only the rest of life were that simple;) .

Oh Shannon, it is that simple. All you have to do is let the voices take over and have a delusional computer trying to entice you away from everything but toy soldiers. :D  Michael (no I don't hear voices, I think...)

Hmmm, Michael are you aware I was a psychiatric nurse in my life before toy soldiers? I always knew those old skills would someday come in handy in this profession. I'm still licensed...maybe I should hang up a shingle on the forum and do a little moonlighting.

PS My all time favorite bumper sticker is "I Brake for Hallucinations" which is I suppose, only funny to psych nurses.;)
