Can someone tell me where this guy belongs. As best I can tell he is French light infantry. I have never found a picture or description of infantry wearing a dolman and pelisse. He wears a sword and has shako cords and the cuff says light infantry but the jacket baffles me. What do you guys do with this guy? There seems to be scrollwork on his pants and every figure I have has the same mark so it isn't a scuffmark. Perhaps he is an unhorsed Hussar who swapped boots and unbloused his breeches and dropped his saber and picked up a musket?100_1383 (800x599).jpg

My first thought was Marines of the guard but they didn't wear the pelisse so your guess is as good as mine. He seems to have a compilation of a variety of uniforms, as you said. Maybe some kind of elite dismounted chasseur?

Yeah, I thought Marines too but a quick check through my library showed nothing like it. Since it is Reamsa maybe it is supposed to be something put together by French troops in Spain. I know a little about the details of the campaign. A lot of cavalry units became dismounted due to lack of replacement horses. So your guess of a dismounted elite chausser may be worth a check of the books again with emphasis on mounted troops serving in Spain. He could have easily acquired a backpack. The musket has a bayonet but there is no sheath for it on the belt.100_1381 (800x599).jpg

Spain sounds most plausible in regards to not having remounts. Maybe he was caught up in the retreat from Russia and either picked up a backpack and shoes of a dead infantryman or the hussars jacket of a dead cavalryman? The lack of bayonet scabbard points to the dismounted cavalry. This guy is a mystery to me haha

Its definitely Marines of the Guard, I've painted him, and I can supply images later today,

Now I see it. The jacket is worn open with another braided jacket underneath. Thanks for the pictures. Is there a reason for the different braiding on the pants leg? Are these the only marine figures in plastic? Nice paint job. It will give me something to follow and help in more research.

Yes, Obee is right. Unit destroyed at Baylen . Maybe that is why Reamsa chose them, defeated.
