What was the first set you got and when?

My first set was 17457 Big Red One Set #2. I got it on by birthday in 2003.

I received Britains sets 1 (The Life Guards Mounted) and set 138 (French Cuirassiers) for X-mas presents in 1953.

My first set was a boxed set of 6 Deetail Union infantry, with 2 scenic pieces. My mother bought it for me on a shopping trip to Chicago a few days before Christmas 1972. School had just let out for the holidays, and my mother took my brother and me to Chicago for a day. We took the train (the "Rock Island Rocket"), ate breakfast in the dining car, and shopped downtown at Marshall Fields. After lunch in the Walnut room, we were allowed to go to the toy department and select a present. Yes, I have many fond and rich memories of my childhood toy soldiers.

My first memory is one Christmas sometime in the late 60's receiving 4 Britains American Revolution swoppet 3-figure boxed sets and 2 boxed Britains mounted swoppet knights. I still have the original figures, somewhat beat-up, but not the boxes. Special, fond memories, for sure...

My first set was Conte's Don Troiani's Lions of the Roundtop around 2001-2002

My very first set was the Britains Riding School, which I still have.

The first metal set which I bought myself was the Irish State Coach.

Some Swoppets cowboys, and Deetail German infantry, around 1969, maybe? I remember at that time, too, seeing the Christmas display at Hess' department store in Allentown, and seeing Deetail figures in the display. I didn't really know what they were until years later (as a kid, who pays attention to what a toy is, you just play with it. Plastic army men in the sandbox out back...and the battle always ended when the Monster Dog attacked, scattering everything and making off with a missle launcher. Those were the days!

Prost!

My first official set as a gift and not a hand me down was the Britains Deetail British assualt raft in 1985.....

So...we see the newbies, not guys who had these figures as kids, but bought them as ADULTS! Tsk, tsk, tsk!

No, just kidding! The important thing is to collect something that you like, because you enjoy it. There are no points for how long you've been collecting it.

Prost!

Herald(Hong Kong)Gordon Highlanders Mtd. Off.,Off.,D.M.,2 Pipers,Snare ,Bass Drum, 2D tree & guardhouse-circa '69 along with "Amazing Grace"-Royal Scots Dragoon Guards cassette-was deliriously pleased that birthday,o.

Mine was the Signing of the Declaration of Independence set. I bought it from Treefrog in 2005. I guess it was fitting that I purchased that as my initial set and then proceeded to buy all my AWI figures.

Hi there! I am sure my first set was ACW plastics purchased in Gettysburg, followed by the Ft. Henry Guard...which I still have sans box (and one broken musket!)
