Back in the 50s, my Marx Alamo playset included the second guy from the right in the pix below. It's an odd pose. If laid on his back, he'd prop himself up on his elbows so I used him as the sick/injured Jim Bowie. But I don't think that's right as he has a base for standing. I never could figure out what he's really supposed to be doing. Anybody know?

He is jumping off the roof onto someone passing below. That was a very common stunt in 1950s Hollywood. It is the same figure as the Marx Jack-Be-Nimble figure, without the candlestick.

That was fast - thanks! Mr Google has a pic of Jack-Be-Nimble - the placement of that candlestick looks dangerous. {sm4}

I was always told he was supposed to be tied to a stake.

That's a possibility - not so much for the Alamo but I think he also was at Fort Apache where he would make sense as an Indian captive. Course Marx didn't seem real concerned with absolute authenticity in their playsets - guess it didn't matter much to kids.

pushing a cart

yes, could be, note the pose on this guy, a ploughman by Phoenix that I have painted for a local collector.

Possible but pushing/pulling a cart, plow, whatever, the arms usually are more-or-less straight down from the shoulders (like the above pic). The guy in question has his arms extended backward from the shoulders and bent at the elbows - seems an awkward position for pushing anything.

Maybe he is pulling a cart ??? This is by Tradition of London - Retreat from Moscow 1812.

Maybe, but note the above guy's arms also are more-or-less straight down from his shoulders. The OP guy's position seems awkward for pulling as well as pushing. I thought he was preparing to jump off a roof or something, especially since Marx also made the similar Jack-Be-Nimble pose. But now I'm thinking he's meant to be tied to a stake as gk5717 posted.
