The latest Britains WWII coming out is a great improvement to prior Britains WWII sets. Good job Richard Walker and Ken Osen. I look forward to may pre-orders arriving in the next couple of months.

However, with few exceptions the past (Pre Richard Walker) WWII releases lacked imagination and were beset with poor quality compared to their competitors IMO.

There were a few exceptions, like the following:

Britains #17459 - US 105 mm Howitzer with 4-Man Crew
17459.jpg

Britains #17247 - U.S. Long Tom 155mm Howitzer
17247.jpg

Britains #17147 - German Waffen SS MG 42 Heavy Weapons Set
17147.jpg

HONORABLE MENTION:

Britains #17249 - US Paratroopers w/75MM Pack Howitzer
17249.jpg

Britains #17492 - US Water-cooled Browning Team
17492.jpg

What’s your opinion:

Carlos

Carlos, those are some of my favorites as well. However, the Panzer IV series tops my list. I have them all and they look great. The AK version works with K&C as does the winter version. While detailing is different, when placed near each other (Britains Panzer IV and K&C Panzer IV) they are the same size.

This is my favorite. This is the only piece that I've seen that has a high resale vaule. It went for $300 on ebay and that was almost 2 years ago.

I agree the Long Tom was a fav of mine. A board member here now owns it and I hope he is enjoying it as much as I did. I also like the Waffen MG Heavy weapons set which still remains a part of my collection.
Thanks Carlos

Hi Guys:

Thanks for the kind comments regarding Ken's new figures and what we are up to, as well as the review of the last few years worth of WWII releases. You will be interested to know that the German Waffen SS MG42 heavy weapons team was quite literally the very last set Ken and I did before leaving Ertl/W. Britain in 1999.

All the best,

Richard

I like the 3 man waffen SS set. But my faves are the 5 British paratroopers. They have good detailing and nice facial expressions.

I'm quite pleased with the German Pak 40 and crew.I also think the US 105 and crew is great{ Thanks Michael, Sceic} and never got my claws on an 88 Set.
I do have a 3 pc SS set I am partial to, and the mg42 crew and wall, I have never run across.
The new stuf, GREAT!!!!!!!

105MM, Scale wise, its very close with the Britains set being slightly larger but its close enough for horse shoes especially with the FOV 105MM being in the uncoiled position.

Thanks Carlos .....I am thinking of a Gun battery Diorama, I would rather have one of each, from a collection standpoint.....Alex

I have never seen that 2 man SS MG42 set before. It looks great though. It's one i'll try and look out for now.

Eazy,

I have the SS MG42 set in my collection, but my set is not for sale. It is a truly beautiful piece. I don't think you will be sorry if you manage to secure one for your collection.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

I guess the 155 "Long Tom" beats out the 105mm (but not by much). The gun is quite impressive, even if it doesn't have quite the casting quality ofthe 105. The crew is well posed. Only mistake I had to correct is that Britains painted the piled ammo with brass cases, but the 155 was a "bag gun" with the charges supplied in silk bags. Fortunately the piled ammo is really about the right size for 155 projectiles, so I painted the whole rounds in olive green.
I like the 75mm howitzer also. Britains was going well on US artillery. There is still a bunch that they can produce, 40mm Bofors (US and UK crews), 155 howitzer, the 105mm M3 (used in infantry cannon companies and later airborne units), the 37mm and 57mm AT guns, the 90mm AAA, and others.

Having looked at all your favorite sets have to agree with most of you - the only one i would add is the German 88mm flak gun and crew - funny how most of the favorites are from the 2000 to 2001 realeases.
