Ken's response in the Best Toy Soldier Lines That Haven't been thread set me to wondering about the many great lines from the older companies like Britains, K&C, Conte etc that have been retired but could be redone today with even better sculpts and painting. How often is that done and what has to happen for it to be done?

The World Toy Soldier Council must convene, and with a quorum present, pass a resolution, instructing the manufacturer to re-issue a now-retired line, and...

Sorry, Scott, I couldn't resist messing with you, just teasing ;)

Seriously, for any of the manufacturers still in business, one impetus might be if there is enough of a call in the market to for a re-issue. For example, if enough collectors were to call for it, on forums like this, and in other contacts to the manufacturer, that manufacturer might think there would be enough demand for a re-issue.

On the other hand, he'd have to weigh costs, especially if a re-issue includes redesign of a master. Also, would the potential profit be offset by bad feelings in the market for anyone who places importance on a piece sold as a limited run, remaining a limited run item.

Those are things that come to mind, but maybe our fellow members who are manufacturers might weigh in with their observations.

Prost!
