When the Forest Ran Red: Washington, Braddock and a Doomed Army (2001)

Experience the French and Indian War with this superb PBS documentary that blends expert commentary with reenactments of battles and other important moments during this significant event in United States history. Beginning with a young George Washington's participation in the murder of a French military emissary, the program explores the clash between French/Indian forces and British/American soldiers over control of the Ohio country.

I watched this documentary last night...it was pretty good and has some nice re-enactments to illustrate the dialog...it dealt mostly with the outsets causing the French/British conflict and was detailed with some of the Indian participation and why.

A lot of it was devoted to George Washington, Braddock, Battle of Monongahela and Indian alliances.

It was a good watch...but the one thing that I found interesting was...

the half dozen historians that documented the dialog...all seemed to concur that Braddock severely hampered any possible alliances with the Indians and this almost cost Britain the war for Colonial America.

It was Braddocks distaste and utter lack of respect for the Indians that compelled the Indian Alliances to side with the French.

I knew of Braddocks dislike and lack of respect for Colonials, Militia, Virginia Provencial, scouts and Indians.

I knew of Braddock's arrogance and ill tempered disposition to authority...but all the historians seemed to feel that his lack of willingness to listen to and take Indian attempts of alliance were the main cause for his demise.

It's still a pretty good watch...but seemed rather short.
