So since it’s Memorial Day thought I’d introduce my two 12 year olds to a classic WW2 movie I’d watch as a kid growing up. What a classic. But to my surprise which I had totally forgotten about was the helicopter scene. My sons grabbed me and said what gives with the helicopter? Didn’t really have an answer. Hahahaha. So I got to thinking yeah what were they thinking?

Another Classic, Where Eagles Dare by Iron Maiden.

Now that I think about it, I wished I would have grabbed the two figure set released by K&C.

They are a couple of great figures that Andy has produced. Robin.

To be fair, though the technology was available in WW II, it was in its infancy, so yeah, it's a bit of an anachronism. I don't know if anyone ever asked Alastair MacLean about it.

You really have to suspend disbelief to watch "Battle of the Bulge", though.

Prost!

I read a few of Alistair MacLean's novels, saw the films e.g: -- Where Eagles Dare, Ice Station Zebra, Guns of Navarone --- even seen the site of the big guns in the latter - the location is near Lindos on Rhodes. One thing about them all -- there is a very similar plot, in these 3 at least -- a mission with a spy for the other side, who is not the first person suspected. They got a bit predictable, but I suspect they helped with the passage of time on a quiet/rainy and or day/night.

Battle of the Bulge is so bad, so inaccurate, that it is good mainly for comic relief. So much is wrong with this movie that there isn't space to go into it. It is Hollywood war movie making at it's worst. -- Al

I love Battle of the Bulge. It was on yesterday and despite it inaccuracies I really like the action. However, the end at the ammo dump was really terrible and weak. I must be the lone one on this Forum.

No, you’re not the only one. Although I didn’t see it yesterday, I love it. I must have seen it over 20 times, maybe more. Yes, it’s inaccurate. So? It tells a great story and it’s fun to watch.

This guy looks like the SS officer who was escorting Mary around the castle and was shot by Schaffer (Clint Eastwood). i really like the Bulge film also, but would have loved to have seen real Tigers, rather than the mock-ups, still they looked effective. Robin.

Major Van Hapen. He was played by an English actor, rather convincingly.

Couple more shots using the figures. Robin.

Helicopters and everything Hollywood else, it’s a great flick! Even battle of the bulge, with all its inaccuracies, is a great entertainment movie, that scene of singing the panzerlied is memorable!
