I'm planning on starting to collect the Crusaders and Saracens. For the ones that are retired, which would be the best idea. 1. If I can't find it in a store, check ebay until I find it, saving my money to make that purchase. Or 2. Look for it on ebay, but if it doesn't show up within several days, go ahead and buy another retired figure that I can buy from a dealer.

#2 seems best to me, because while I was waiting for "the" figure, I could be letting other figures get sold at a dealer, increasing the number I need to find on ebay. But I haven't been in this long, so any advice from seasoned collectors would be appreciated.

I have been collecting for many years .....I believe the best way to find the hard to find and retired items are from dealers and connections .....a little time and patience will get what you what ..........go to some toy soldier shows and tell people what you are looking for ......if you are in a hurry and what to spend money go to EBAY!!!!!!

If a reputable dealer has the retired item at a reasonable price, no reason not to buy it right away. Another way is to post on the classifieds thread on the board asking if people have certain items they would sell. E-bay is another possibility. Bargains can be had on e-bay.

Patience is what has been working consistently for me with retired items...One day or another you will get (through Ebay, TF Forum, dealers, shows, etc.) what you have been looking for at the right price. ;) This is what makes the quest for retired items interesting! :D

Patience, buy what you can at retail now and worry about retired itams later, unless you can get retired items at retail. Retired items maybe scarse, but they are available. I would not go crazy and buy on ebay for a very high price. If it was on ebay once it will be there again. There is nothing that says you have to complete the entire range right away. The search is half the fun.

I think some combination of dealer searches and Ebay works best. Many retired items actually sell below retail initially or after a short delay so you can find some deals there if you are patient. Of course there is risk in that since there are no guarantees what the flavor of the month in collecting will become so certainly exhausting your search of dealers is the most reliable. It is probably best to concentrate first on the most dramatic and colorful figures, which may be the most popular. Personality figures, especially mounted, will likely fall into that category. If you do bid on ebay, either contact the seller to negotiate a price before the first bid or bid inside the last minute with what you would want to spend and no more. This will help minimize your winning bid costs.

You could simply make your request here! :)

I did once - with a good result! Thank you Njja! ;)

Or "Changing Guard Auctions" or "Ebay" or just Google it! Somethimes it pays off!

The worst thing ever is a missing K&C piece - so - good luck! :)

To: "SGT":

When I started to sell some of my retired K&C sets on eBay going back to early 2005 I soon noted that many (but not all) retired King & Country sold on eBay for large & even huge profits over original retail prices. As a eBay seller I say that is great. But as a buyer I would say with the exception of certain sets you really just have to have, just wait for K&C to add more current sets to the historical period you are buying for currently.
