Interesting. Where I grew up, it was an established neighborhood full of old growth trees, very suitable for climbing. My friends and I spent a lot of time climbing various trees in the area, in our yards or not, as very few people back then were perturbed if you climbed a tree in their yard. I suffered my only major bone fracture climbing a tree in my yard when a branch broke and I fell about 10 or so feet to the ground and broke my left arm. The 50's and 60's were great times to be a kid. I raised my kids in a house that was part of a newly developed neighborhood, built on old farmland. There were no old growth trees, only ones planted by the developer for appearance sake, so my kids did almost no tree climbing that I am aware of. Never really thought about it, but I suppose my kids did miss out on that aspect of being a kid, but they seemed to do everything else I remember doing such as ball playing, bike riding, swimming, etc. Anyway, none of the kids have ever complained about missing out on their chance to play Tarzan. -- Al
