Good day

In wargame circles, 15/28mm collectors, research, etc the period of the Sun King/Franco-Dutch War/League of Augsburg/WSS/GNW (1672-1721) has really taken off and is quite poplar.

With websites such as League of Augsburg, rules from said site BLB2 and figures from companies like Front Rank, Dixon, Warfare, etc.

I would love to see a line based on the Battle of the Boyne: Dutch Blue Guards crossing up against James II Foot Guards, Jacobite Cavalry charging, etc. Lots of room in the period for personality characters.

cheers

Probably not as much interest among toy soldier collectors, as there is in the wargaming community.

Over the years, some manufacturers have produced figures from the period. Russell Gammage had a series of 54mm figures from Marlborough's army, including a mounted figure of the Duke himself. Stadden did as well. Stadden also covered the earlier period of the Thirty Years' War and English Civil War in the custom 54mm figure catalog. And Britain did too, if I'm not mistaken, in either the Herald or Swoppets line. Currently, the German maker Peipp has Landsknechte in his catalog, as well as a line of Thirty Years' War figures and Prussians under the Great Elector, all very nicely sculpted, with great animation. But those are more popular in Germany than anywhere else.

But I'm just not sure that there would be enough of a market to warrant the upfront cost to sculpt the masters, make the molds, and get the figures finished and shipped.

Prost!

Hello Brad

I see your point. I will keep hoping in the future we may see one of the 54/60mm companies move in that direction. There is hope with companies like JJD with their French & Indian War & War of 1812 as examples of branched out into other periods of history besides the common ones of Napoleonic & WWII.

cheers
