Can anyone tell me about W. Britain's Coronation Queen Elizabeth II Set.
The figures are in excellent condition [except 1 missing sword], but unfortunately the box isn't in excellent condition.
The year of production must have been 1952/3. Would there have been a large production?
Are there collectors for these W. Britians?
What would the valuation be?
Thanks for your help.

Hi There,

I believe there are several folks here who can answer these questions for you. But I will try to help also. If this is in a box that says set number 2081 you have a set that is highly sought after because it was a very large set and was only produced in 1953. But there appears to be some issues with the set as shown mainly it is short a number of figures. So please tell us which box number is on your box. The coach has me perplexed as well becuase if it was from this set is would have robin's egg blue on the panels of the doors and body of the coach, your coach looks like it might actually be set number 1470 which was introduced in the year 1937 until 1941 and was reissued in 1948. The figures inside the coach are King George VI and his Queen Elizabeth. The attendants you display appear to be correct for set 1475 which contained 18 dismounted figures. Also the mounted Troops look to be from other sets as well. More in a bit I have to get the kids out the door to school. But I would ask for more photos please.

All the best

Dave

Hi Again,

The two mounted figures in the back appear to be early version figures from set 201 The Officers of the General Staff. They look like they are the same figure with empty right hands that move. They are mounted on Cheastnut colored horses which were produced from 1920 until 1941 and reintroduced in 1946 with a different colored horse of dark brown. Could use a closer photo to tell for sure. Would also like a closer photo of the 2 mounted figures in the front of the procession I think they are also from set 201 again looks to be the same figure of an Aide De Camp. The mounted guys in the rear of the formation on white hores are too out of focus for my eyes sorry need a closer shot of them as well.

Dave

Once you post the closer photos of the mounted figures I should be able to ID them and then we can sort out a valuation if you like. There is a large market for these sorts of figures so we can chat on that also.

All the best

Dave

PS you should also contact Dick Buttons he has a very good collection of figures from this era as well.

Yo Troopers, hard one to sort this. Its defo pre war but doesn't fit in with any of the set numbers unless its 1477 then a lot of its missing, but at first it seems to be 1470, but that only had eleven pieces, but if there is only one seated passenger in the coach its the rare Edward V111 version. Set 1477 had the mounted police as Scott points out and the four officers from set 201 but it was a 75 piece set. If mimi5 comes back with the box number he or she is in serious trouble:eek: Its Stable duties for a month lol.
Bernard.

Hi Scott and Bernard

Glad to see your eyes are better when it comes to the halted troopers on the white horses.

I think that it could also be the Edward VIII coach because I can only see one person in the back but I wanted to try and get the poster to put some closer shots of the group. If there are two folks in the back of the carriage its the set I mentioned earlier with the set being 1470. The other set of attendants or Beefeaters is likely set number 1475 which was issued in the 1930s with the number of figures I counted. Time will tell on the rest but I do love a puzzel

Dave

According to my civilian book the mounted police were issued in the Coronation display set # 1477

Oh my goodness! After reading your reply, I explored the set again and discovered another layer of figures. New total: 72 + Coach. 22 mounted, plus 8 mounted drawing the Coach, the remainder are various groups of footmen.
This set was probably bought by my father-in-law, Air Vice Marshall in the Canadian Airforce... for my husband - born in 1932.
The Coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953 didn't fit the history of this set.
I agree with your assumption, it must be King George VI Coronation.
There is no number anywhere on the Box beyond W. Britain Reg'd No. 459993, only picture of the procession and another label 'Coronation Display' - which must have come from one side of the box top where the 'Coronation Display' was attached. Perhaps at one time there was a number......
I've taken more pictures and will try to figure out how to download them for you to see.....
Can you tell me any more??
Thanks again.

Hi Again,

Well that certainly changes things a great deal if it is indeed the whole set of set number 1477 for the Coronation of George VI it is indeed a real honey of a set and is worth a great deal of money. The set would have a total of 75 pieces. It has the following in the set: State Coach and Attendants, 7 Life Guards Troopers and seven Horse Guard Troopers with no officers A Gereral without Binos and 2 Aides De Camp from set 201 An Officer and 13 Men from the Cold Stream Guards at Present and an Officer and 9 men from the Warwickshire Regiment also at Present and 4 mounted Police. The set was produced from 1937 until 1941. Please post the additional photos as soon as you can. I personally have only seen pictures of this in books so I am really pleased that you are sharing it with us.

State Coach with George VI and Elizabeth pulled by 8 mounts and 4 mounted Attendants, 7 mounted Life Guards Troopers and 7 mounted Horse Guard Troopers with no officers. 'A Gereral without Binos' [not sure what they look like] and 2 Aides De Camp from set 201 - not sure about these either but there are 2 Officers on black mounts, 2 on brown mounts. An Officer and 13 Men from the Cold Stream Guards at Present and an Officer and 9 men from the Warwickshire Regiment also at Present and 4 mounted Police. In addition to your list, 4 Beefeaters on foot; 8 'footmen'; 6 footmen with swords. I'm still only counting 72 figures and the State Coach. Is there a way to identify the various figures?
I'll edit the photo's and try to get them out later today.
Thanks for all your help!
Terrie

Here is a photo of set 201 General Officer and Staff figures. You will have three of these figures in your set. The General on the Chestnut colored horse in your photo and the two you have at the front of the photo are the Aides.

More to follow

Hi Again,

I dont have a good photo of the Warwickshire Regiment at Present but the one I am posting shows you the type of helmet they were wearing which is different than the Guards helmet. The figures in my photo are marching and not at present just a shot to give you an idea of how they look.

Hi Again

Here is a photo of a RHG Officer the troopers would be uniformed in a similar uniform with Blue Jacket and red plumes on their helmets and not on a rearing horse

Hi Dave;
Thanks for the photo's, clearly I've misnamed some figures but you'll figure it out...... at this point I've loaded them to a web page for viewing because of Treefrog site size restrictions.
Here is the link.

I have a Mac and had no trouble viewing the photos.

Nice figures.

I'm enjoying DMNamiot's detective agency services, and look forward to the final verdict. :)

Very nice old set. I am envious of your good fortune to have this treasure

Hi Mimi,

Stunning is all I can say!!! You have a very lovely treasure there and it looks pretty complete. I saw one figure that was extra but otherwise its in amazing condition.

Thanks so much for sharing it with us.

As far as a value goes I will let you know in a few days but its not a cheap set.

Thanks again for sharing this with us.

All the best

Dave
