Of the various St Petersburg studios I think that Grenada do the best Winged Hussars for the quality and price:

If you don't want to pay $200 for a single mounted figure then check out Boris Kolomytsev (Kolobob on eBay), or his wife, Olga Romantchuk (soldierss on eBay). They sometimes have pieces on offer which are of slightly lower painting quality (still breathtaking though) or sometimes they have cancellations of commissioned pieces and sell the items on eBay. Other Russian eBayers with occasional versions of Polish Winged Hussars are Alexsandra Bespalova (Argo Studio) and Valeri Malygine (Valmaly on eBay). The latter does anything from Niena to Rogatchev, and all have produced a figure over the years. The best are still Andre Arsynev's Russian Vityaz figures. If you have one of those it'd nearly cost the price of a real Polish horse, but beautiful to look at. Even just 2 or 3 figures together is almost too much, as each requires a lot of display space.

I have one of these in stock. I can send photos and shoot a pic or two over if you're interested.

That would be cool! Please go ahead and send me a pic and a price.

I think I can figure out the reason for the Winged Hussar, but please somebody with more knowledge than I, explain why someone would ask for so much attention on a very dangerous battlefield. Michael

Well

From my reading the first reason for the wings was for height inorder to look bigger and more intimidating to the enemy and the wings were also to help defeat one of the primary weapons employed by the light infantry of the Steppes the lariot what better way to deal with horsemen then to try and un horse them the wings had sharpened edges to cut the ropes. Pretty ingenious if you think about it.

Happy New Year All
