For anyone looking for some entertainment after the Super Bowl ends, TCM is showing the 1927 silent classic "Wings" at 10pm EST, Feb.6. William Wellman directed this WW1 airwar feature and it won the first Academy Award ever given out for Best Picture. Clara Bow and airplanes, what could be bad?^&grin -- Al

Watched this last night. Some neat stuff in a movie that is 84 years old. Story is kind of long but there is a lot of good action and some neat airplanes. Some actual WW1 aircraft and a lot of contemporary Curtiss' and Boeings. Saw a Fokker D-7, some DH-4's (or 9's), and what looked like reworked Spads. Most of the German planes looked to be Curtiss P1-A's or a later mark. The good guys may have been flying Boeing built MB-3A's, a Thomas-Morse design. Can't be sure though, as I just don't know enough about the 20's era aircraft. It was fun to watch, though. -- Al
