I have to say I haven't been as excited about a JJD series since Jacobite Rebellion. So while I am biting my fingernails in anticipation of the first pics of the Conquistadors, revealed later today at the London Toy Figures Show, I thougt I would use the time to compile a wishlist for the series. Anyone feel free to add their personal wishlist :)

So here I go:

Conquistadors and Allies:

1) Cortez (Well this goes without saying ;))

2) Spanish bannermen (one with Cortez personal banner and one with the banner of Spain)

3) Spanish swordsmen (equipped with sword and shield, the latter varying between round iron bucklers and the heartshaped adargo-style shield made of hide)

4) Spanish pikemen/lancers/halberdiers

5) Spanish crossbowmen

6) Spanish arquebusier

7) Spanish artillery

All of these wearing a mix of breast/back-plates, studded brigandines, jacks, leather jerkins and indian made quilted cotton armour, on the head a mix of war hats, sallets, cabacetes, burgonets and cloth bonnets/caps, some wearing hose some not, and on the feet some with leather shoes/ankle boots but most with local hemp sandals.

8) Spanish cavalry consisting of:

a) Captains and richer horsemen wearing three-quarter armour with closed helmet

b) The bulk being light jinetes on lighter horses wearing cuirass, collar/gorget, tassets, vambraces/mail armour and gauntlets and open helmet
(both wearing a mix of calf and thigh length leather boots)

9) Hounddogs (Mastiffs)

10) Indian allies: Tlaxcalan, Totonacs, Texcocos and Huexotzincos

Has John ever indicated if this range is supposed to be associated with a specific battle like the Battle of Otumba? What he produces might be influenced by that answer. If he were doing something like the Battle for the Temple Yopic in Tenochtitlan then he could make some miniature wooden siege towers. There were also naval campaigns with canoes and Spanish brigantines. An endless variety. There were also female conquistadors. Someone like La Malinche would be an interesting personality figure.

Large subject

The conquest by Castilian/Spanish during a 3 centuries time
Most of south America (not Brazil ), central America, part of north America, all the West Coast, California ...
