Hey PB, what is the number of this set? (QR01? or something like that) I think I've seen it before, though it's not listed on JJD's website. Love the photos and the subject material.

Very cool. I have the opportunity to buy this set, and have not seen it for quite a while, so I was very happy to see these photos. Thanks again, and now I am really excited to get these guys home.

Regards,

Dave

We had a good discussion on QR-01 a while back. It is not a higher quality JJ set in the opinion of most, but still a nice collectible because so few were made. I think JJ confirmed there were only 135 sets made available despite the certificate indicating 250. I have an affection for it as the "insider" set that distinguishes die-hard JJ collectors.

I had heard something to that effect, i.e. less than 200 sets released, but am not familiar otherwise with the rest of the story. For instance when was it made and so on. They seem to be attired somewhat like the Gorham's ranger in Britains new gloss range. I was a bit surprised to find this set available at original retail price anyway. I wish the hard-core exclusive set owning JJD collector tag applied to me, though unfortunately I am just recently starting to collect these figures and missed out on most of the earlier Rogers Rangers and Monongahela sets, and am trying to acquire as many of these as I can now. I am having to pass on the Snowshoes and Quebec offerings for now, though may be able to eventually collect most of them (Quebec anyway). I also hope to be in a position to start buying the Chippewa sets as they become available in the near future.

Yes these are like the Gorham Ranger uniforms. According to a 1759 journal entry by Capt. John Knox, Wolfe had 6 Ranger companies with him at Quebec in 1759 all wearing this type of uniform.

Also rather unusual three out of the four appear to be lefties.

A very astute observation. Actually I made them lefties (I'm one:D) by flipping the picture via Photoshop since I felt the compostion looked better that way. Here are the actual figures from John's original photo:
