Are there any women collectors around ( apart from Shannon )? If there are, why don't they get to the forum more often? Is this the dolls for girls v. toy soldiers for boys thing? Or the homework-mom thing? What are your thoughts on this?

I have seen a couple of collectors' wives who collect the Streets of Old Hong Kong & World of Dickens figures, and I (between marriages) used to date a girl who loved the ancient Roman & St. Petersburg Egyptian stuff. I took her to a show about 6 years ago and Andy got a real kick out of her (she was pretty sexy).

She's not Mrs. Neilson now is she? :D

Louis, If she was that scary then you're lucky she collected toy soldiers instead of dolls: far better that she decimates her legionaries rather than stick pins in a voodoo doll of you!

Well, don't forget Ana Donzino of course from Beau Geste. She collects as well as creates toy soldiers. And we have had some women recently join the forum. Let's hear from you too! Perhaps we have some women painters on the forum that prefer to paint more than collect?

As for me, I mostly collect broken soldiers :p. I try to avoid collecting my own inventory (bad for the bottom line!) but I do enjoy my ragtag collection of stray pieces. I also have some nice Manes Marzano figures, a gaucho and his horse from my friends at Beau Geste and I am not sure ALL my remaining Imperial Town & Around figures are going to make it out to collectors. ;) And of course I have #1/30 of the Figarti Treefrog Treasures tanks (had to keep that one!).
I've got a great ledge that goes all the way around the room at my desk here that is perfect for displaying both figures and vehicles. But I've also got the company cat...they don't mix very well.
I like both glossy and matte and although I don't have any in my personal collection Delhi Durbar is my favorite because it is so colorful and exotic.

Let me tell you, there is truly nothing more frightening than a woman scorned! I'll tell you the story sometime when we all get together.

One of the precious few women collectors I've met is a very eclectic collector. She has genuine interest - she and her husband come a few times a year.

She had been collecting various figure makers - especially Tommy Atkins woodland natives.

She has now switched over to East of India. She saw my display with the three buildings and fell in love with them.

Another woman collects kind of eclectic stuff to make displays and art instalations with. She is the great-grand-daughter of the famous painter Matisse.

There are lots of women who collect the farm, zoo & wildlife plastic figures I have and a few who collect the plastoy Egyptian figures.

My wife actually likes the K&C Romans, so I bought her the Triumphal Arch and some of the marching Romans, and these will be the only toy soldiers in my house outside of my Attic Museum. I don't know if this qualifies her as a collector, but it does show that both genders can appreciate some Toy Soldiers.

What a scam!!!!! I may have to try and talk my wife into the American Revolution....NOT....
You my man MUST have a way with words!!!!

WELLINGON...;)

I certainly hope I have a way with words, as an Appellate Attorney my job is to argue appeals and convince panels of judges that I'm right and the court below is wrong. If I don't have at least a decent line of B.S., I'm in trouble.

Hi guys,
My name is Sally & I am a single female who started collecting soldiers about 7 years ago. I've amassed quite a collection since then. I paint, repair & sell figures here in town & on eBay . It helps fund my K&C collection. They R my favorites. I am a military buff first. My start was in Civil War, but I'm into it all now.
I have mostly WWII, but also do Rev. war, Napoleonic, WWI, WWII, HK series, Silk rd, & Zulus, Durbar Indians, not to mention V'nam & civilians, & even a few plastics. I make dioramas, not as much anymore.

I am a hard core collector. I belong to a local club & go to meetings monthly. We make group dioramas & have won awards for them several years in a row.

I live on the east coast and would love to meet a single man looking for a petite young lady w/out kids, who adores toy soldiers & war movies. If you R out there, here I am. I'm a 1960's baby who never grew up. No age discrimination. Nice to meet you all- Sally

Sally,

Welcome to the forum. You and I have done some business together so it's great to have you here.

Hey Sally glad you could finally join us. You know me already. I sold you YA03 and live in Hendersonville,Greenwood Toy Soldier country. You already have my want list and I'm still hanging with that WS20 which I was hoping to use as collateral for some of those wants. Glad to hear you got your DD12.
Chat with you soon,
B

Welcome aboard Sally. Where were you when I was single? You sound terrific.

By the way, you mentioned you used to sell toy soldiers on ebay. Did you used to sell under the moniker "Girlsluvsoldiers"? If so I bought a few pieces from you over the years.

'Girls luv soldiers' was Lisa Cohn as far as I can remember (don't remember the name of the model she used for those funny but cheesy photos of soldiers and tanks in, well erm, non-military formations).

I haven't bought from SallyReb but bid on a few retired K&C until they sailed off into the financial stratosphere on the occasions in which I followed the auctions.

Welcome on board Sally.
