I purchased a wooden Camp Apache at a flea market. It has no markers, manufacturer's markings. It's made of wood. It has a gait, block house, stable, guard tower and wall sections. It's 1/32 or 54mm. Is this from a Britains toy set? Perhaps Deetail? Any help would be appreciated.

It's not Britains, but it would help if you posted a picture. It sounds like a custom piece.

Sadly I am technically incapable. I don't think it's custom though. I know that Britains did have a western type fort not so long ago and stocked it with their plastic 'deetail' Indians and either cowboys or cavalry.

Almost every old scenic was plastic, including the one you are mentioning. They also didn't have the parts you mention. JG's fort has them, but it is resin I think. The only company that really uses real wood for forts is Volk scenics.

As I mentioned before regrettably there are no markings. It's all wood. No resins or plastic. I came upon a great deal. I'll google Volk. It's not the latest release from JG. I appreciate your help.

I checked out Volk. I believe my Camp Apache is not Volk it is much older. I would guess it is from the 50's or 60's based on the type of wood (reddish in color) and the craftsmanship. It is not weathered nor is it as 'realistic' in appearance as Volk.

I think I remember something similar- I will check as soon as I have a second of spare time.

If it's a 50s or 60s fort, without seeing a photo, it could have been one that was marketed by F.A.O. Schwartz. That store sold a variety of wooden structures, including a Western-type fort that was oddly named "Fort Bronx."

I agree that it is probably from F.A.O. Schwartz. I had their fort and it was made of wood.....a great find by you.

Would love to see some pics, used to have a wooden american fort , bought for me in the mid 70's by my dad in manchester to go with my britains cavalry and indian figures, on a green base and made out of individual 'logs' (i know because after many years of use sadly it got left out in the rain and disintegrated "log by log"). It wasn't britains as the shopkeeper had advised my dad against the britains one in favour of that one.
If anyone has a wooden fort be great to see some pics and might help to id the "wooden camp apache"

Hi Guys,

I had the wooden version of this fort when I was a little guy back in 1970. I also had the wooden version of the castle. The figures that came with this set for me were the swoopet cavalry and infantry. Eventually we (brothers and friends) used it with Deetail figures of cowboys indians and cavalry. It was a great set! Of course I would need to see a photo to be sure. Mine came from Santa aka FAO Schwartz.
