I'm not really a soccer fan, so maybe someone can help me out.

From what I understand, Adidas came out with a completely new ball for the World Cup based on 'new technology.' I'm reading that many players don't like it one bit.

Now...why would they come out with a new ball for the world's greatest event? I can't see the NFL coming our with a new football just for the Super Bowl! They use what the players know best. Wouldn't it make sense to use what they players know? That way they can utilize it the best.

Perhaps someone can explain.

There is a newly designed World Cup ball for every world cup and there is often a lot of controversy, and then it dies down. As to why they do it???

I would say they do it for the MONEY , Its all about the money . They will make replica world cup balls in various forms from mini's to the game balls all for sale at the right price of course . Each big Final has the same thing Champions League , Euro Cup , Ect........ Just as everyone who has a favorite team knows they have at least three new jerseys every season , a training jersey , a home jersey and an away jersey . Its a marketing thing and Adidas are masters ;) Best Gebhard

Is a marketing strategy, they do this almost every Cup, to promote new article, soccer ball and try to innovate the thing...Players detest but in the end they manage to find some profits on that

Example: if the ball is too light and tent to changes direction, so strikers will make long distance, things like that...

I can see the marketing aspect of new things like 3 different jerseys and replica cups, but these have no effect on the play, whereas a newly designed ball can affect the play and possibly the outcome. But at $150, the new ball would be a moneymaker. I guess they are prepared to live with any disaster that a new ball could make.

They said that this ball feels like cheap Wal-Mart volleyball ball, too light.

they make a new ball for every new world cup tournament it is a busines strategy,we all know that, but also every ball is better than previous because it is tested and the machine and knowledge is better every world championship,so this ball is very light and very fast and it is design to make more goals on the tournament which people(football fans) wannts.
The most problems will have goal keepers and their are the ones that complain the most (Casilas,Buffon,...) but i think the ball is the ball and if you are a great football player you can play with every ball but off course some of the players are just entertainers and they are not happy with the light ball because they can not dribling too much and one more thing this ball will be excuse for some bad players that they didnt get use to the ball and stuff like that but let sbe serious all of them will meet this ball for their first time so they have all the same advantage.

These balls have been available since the end of 2009 and all of the competing teams have been sent a supply, so there is no excuse for not having gotten used to them.
