It's the year 1780, your walking down a quaint, dusty country lane in either North or South Carolina, you come across a field, would you see this type of gate with the stone blocks either side????????

Cheers

Hi Cornawallis, I posted the photo on a Civil war reenactor forum. A few Members are from that area. We'll see.

Greetings,

I have lived my entire life in North Carolina and pride myself on paying attention as I wander around. I also have a degree in historic preservation but that is besides the point on noticing stone gates.

Here in the western Piedmont area of NC there is an abundance of rock walls, structures, and fences that somewhat resemble your pic.

Case in point is the fence at around Hopewell Presbyterian Church just North of Charlotte which date to 1800's maybe 1790. Many of the Scots-Irish who cam here were Masons and much of their work still exists.

Hope this helps.

Your welcome.

Off topic....I used to be in a British reenactment unit in the 1970s and 80s here in Massachusetts.

Thats cool, what regiment? I would probably be well up for that myself however there are no American Revolution reenactment groups in the UK (well that I can find).
There are a couple of French & Indian Wars / Culloden period and then loads of Napoleonics but nothing in between which sucks really.

If you want to see a few pics of my display check out the King and Country section under 'The Redcoats are coming...'.

I will be adding some more wooden fence sections and this gate opposite the farm (you can see where I am missing a few sections) now that you have confirmed its authenticity.

I was in the 74th Regiment of Foot (Highlanders) and the 10th Regiment of Foot. Then I went Union army around 1985.

I'll have a look, Thanks!
