Would you be interested in 1/30 Victorian era building kits? (1 Viewer)

I'm contemplating the possibility of 3D-printing and resin moulding/casting a few variants of Victorian era buildings for a London dioramaboard. Needless to say, at this size, the cost is prohibitive so the only way I think I can go forward would be if I can do a limited run of sets for sale here, to help to offset the costs.

Would there be any interest for that sort of thing? The kit would come as a set of different resin panels, to assemble and paint yourself (or commission someone to do it). There would be some alternative fronts offered as well as the option for fully textured sides or flat sides for building a row of them.

Hi White Knight,

Just stumbled across your thread.

The short answer is "yes"

However, I wouldn't commit to a project before I had seen a Prototype, and had some idea of the cost.

If you want some buildings for your self you will have to build one (the prototype) we can then commit to buying a copy.

If you sell unpainted kits, the cost to us must be considerably lower than the alternatives: K&C, Britains, JG Mins etc.

Why don't you discuss this with someone like "Guy" who lives in your part of the world, his scratch built buildings are super. He must know all the tricks.

Good Luck!!

Hi,

Thanks for the considered reply. You raise some good points.

Indeed it makes sense you can't really commit 'sight unseen'.

I should probably also elaborate that I'm not looking to this as a permanent commercial enterprise. Rather, I'm in need of some buildings for my personal collection and rather than scratchbuilt each one individually, I was looking into the possibility of getting some modular building parts done that could be assembled in different combinations and painted to get matching but unique looking buildings that could be either used as a standalone complete building or ranked up in a row of houses. Façade style "half depth" variants might also be considered for the back row of your diorama, as it might be feasible with limited additional effort.

Given the size of the kits, such a project would demand a rather large investment, which is why I asked the question if there would be some interest from other people in some sets (provided of course the end result is to your liking).

I take note of the concern about price. It makes sense it shouldn't cost as much as a fully completed painted model. On the other hand, it will likely be a very short, limited run, so production costs per item will be higher, I will gather a bit more information from my printing/moulding/casting guy.:smile2:

I might even once in a blue moon be able to offer a complete painted model if I find the time. ^&grin
